Everything you need to know about the Singapore Tourism Board's $100 SingapoRediscovers vouchers that every Singaporean aged 18 and above will receive. The vouchers will be provided in denominations of $10 via SingPass

Back in August, it was announced that the Government would be setting aside $320 million for SingapoRediscovers vouchers to boost domestic spending in tourism—one of the industries that was hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, more details have been released about the initiative, which will see Singaporeans aged 18 and above this year each receiving $100 in digital vouchers to spend on domestic tourism activities such as staycations, leisure attractions and local tours. Here’s everything you need to know.

What are SingapoRediscovers vouchers?

SingapoRediscover vouchers are digital credits that can be used to offset spending on domestic tourism, including hotel stays and attractions. Under the initiative, every Singaporean aged 18 and above will be receiving $100 in digital vouchers, given in denominations of $10.

Why the Government offering these vouchers?

Named after the Singapore Tourism Board’s $45 million SingapoRediscovers marketing campaign, SingapoRediscovers vouchers are introduced as incentives to encourage local spending on the tourism industry, which has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reiterating that it is not a social assistance scheme, trade and industry minister Chan Chun Sing said: “This is an economic scheme to help our tourist attractions preserve their capabilities that have been built up over their years while they consolidate the capacity in the interim.”

Who is eligible for the vouchers?

Singaporeans aged 18 and above in 2020 will be receiving SingapoRediscover vouchers, while those under 18 will enjoy up to six subsidised attraction or tour tickets at $10 off. Permanent residents are not eligible for the scheme.

When can the SingapoRediscovers vouchers be used?

SingapoRediscover vouchers will be available from December 2020 through June 2021. According to Chan, the duration of the voucher programme was timed to coincide with the June and December holidays, while spreading out demand in between.

How are the vouchers redeemed?

The SingapoRediscover vouchers can be accessed digitally via SingPass. STB chief executive Keith Tan said the agency is launching a tender to find platform operators to provide a digital voucher redemption system. STB will then work with winning bidders to provide alternative solutions for those who face difficulties accessing the vouchers digitally. More details are expected in November.

Where can the vouchers be spent?

SingapoRediscover vouchers can be used to offset spending on hotels, attractions as well as local tours that have received approval from STB to resume operations.

As of time of writing, there are 34 attractions, 81 tour operators, and 214 hotels permitted by the STB to operate. These include local staycation favourite Marina Bay Sands, and popular attractions at Sentosa like Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium and iFly Singapore.
