Luxury Hotels and Resorts in Asia Re-Opening from June 2020 Onwards
As lockdown measures start to lift around the world, airlines are reinstating their flights and resorts and hotels are getting ready to welcome guests onto their properties again. While leisure travel isn’t allowed just yet when we enter phase 2 of Singapore’s safe reopening on June 19, this list of luxury properties that are re-opening their doors would make a good reference for future travels—some even offer vouchers with flexible accommodation dates.
1/8 Chiva-Som, Thailand
Chiva-Som in Hua Hin, Thailand, has reopened its doors on June 12 as the Land of Smiles gradually eases its lockdown. The global wellness destination will continue offering personalised wellness experiences through holistic healing, with the addition of new experiences targeting post-lockdown concerns. This is coupled with heightened hygiene measures for the safety for guests and staff, which include Covid-19 testing and quarantine for contact staff, temperature checks upon arrival, deep cleaning of guest rooms, frequent disinfection of all equipment, social distancing, and complimentary hand sanitiser and masks for guests.
Those unable to travel to Thailand just yet can also purchase Chiva-Som Privilege Wellness Vouchers that are valid until December 31, 2021. A 15 per cent discount will be awarded for a minimum purchase of THB 50,000, and the vouchers are available for purchase until July 31, 2020.
2/8 Rosewood Bangkok, Thailand
Having closed its doors on March 25, Rosewood Bangkok has reopened on June 15, welcoming guests to its property in the heart of the city. The hotel will be operating in accordance to the group’s Commitment to Care Global Health and Safety Program, which includes enhanced safety and cleanliness through increased cleaning and sanitisation, personalised care through social distancing measures and contactless services, as well as health and safety checks and training for staff.
For the month of June, the hotel’s in-room dining services and facilities like the swimming pool and fitness studio will be open, with Sense, A Rosewood Spa available for limited treatments. Restaurants and bars, with the exception of Nan Bei, remain temporarily closed.
3/8 The Datai Langkawi, Malaysia
Following the easing of Malaysia’s Movement Control Order, The Datai Langkawi reopened on June 12, with restrictions on group sizes for activities and some facilities remaining closed. These include the property’s swimming pools, sauna and steam rooms, and a number of its restaurants. The Gulai House and The Beach Club remain open for dining in.
The resort will also be ramping-up on safety measures such as temperature checks for guests upon arrival and entry to restaurants, social distancing of one metre, sanitisation of guest rooms as well as car and buggies after each trip, and providing face masks ad hand sanitisers.

4/8 The Legian Seminyak, Indonesia
The Legian Seminyak in Bali will be re-opening on June 20. Located on one of Bali’s best beaches, the iconic hotel offers panoramic views of the coastline and sunset from its 14 private pool villas and 67 sea-facing suites. A member of The Leading Hotels of The World, guests can expect elevated cleanliness standards and protocols in adherence to the group’s Healthy Stays commitment.
All guests and staff will be subjected to temperature checks upon entering the property, and an on-site clinic is also open from 8am to 8pm daily.
5/8 Aman Resorts
Aman has announced that it will be moving forward with a phased reopening of all its resorts globally. While Amanruya (Turkey) opened its doors on June 6, the next to follow are Aman Venice (Italy) and Amanzoe (Greece) which will reopen tomorrow on June 18. Subsequently, Aman properties in Asia will re-open from July 1, starting with Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand—the very first Aman property that was established. The wellness resort has said that it will take “all appropriate steps in line with guidelines from the World Health Organisation and government authorities according to each location” as they begin to reopen all their resorts.

6/8 Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas, Malaysia
Closer to home, Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas will open its doors to the public on July 1. The hotel has added new measures for the comfort and safety of visitors through its ‘Stay with Peace of Mind’ health and safety initiative. Key measures include contactless in-room dining services, 'Guest Guardians' at each property who will ensure the highest level of health and safety compliance at all guest touchpoints, a personal hygiene kit with a face mask and hand sanitiser for each guest in every room and more. Guests will also have the option to check-in online prior to arrival and check out online before they depart.
7/8 Kiroro Resorts, Japan
Want a vacation that's a little further out of Southeast Asia? Kiroro Resorts in Hokkaido will re-open from July 1 and it may be just what you need once travel restrictions are eased. The stunning alpine resort nestled in the Yoichi mountains is an all-season resort that offers luxury accommodations including the Sheraton Hokkaido Kiroro Resort and The Kiroro Tribute Portfolio Hotel Hokkaido.
Over the past few months, Kiroro has been working to develop new hygiene and operations protocols. Upon check-in, guests will have their temperature measured and travel history reviewed. All touchpoints, equipment, elevators and public spaces will be thoroughly sanitised regularly while guest rooms will be cleaned each day with alkaline electrolysed water. Social distancing measures will also be in place at all public spaces, including restaurants, lounge areas, Onsen and elevators.
8/8 Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, Malaysia
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is set to re-open its doors on July 3, with enhanced health and safety measures for guests. Four Seasons properties across the globe have implemented 'Lead With Care', a full-scale health and safety enhancement designed in collaboration with Johns Hopkins Medicine International. Guests can look forward to 'Lead With Care' kits placed in each guest room, each kit includes masks, hand sanitiser and sanitisation wipes, with additional masks supplied on demand.
Social distancing measures are also embedded in all services for guest protection, including appropriately spaced fitness equipment, modified spa menu and services and contactless check-in and housekeeping services. Restaurants and bars will also operate with reduced capacity to ensure adequate space and socially distant set-up while digital menus will be provided and contactless delivery is available for in-room dining along with sustainable, single-use packaging. Reservations for stays will be accepted from July 3.
