An Evening of Celebrating Inclusivity at The YMCA Giving Gala 2019
The annual YMCA Giving Gala was a success once again and was extra special this time around as the event saw the launch of the YMCA Community Services Fund (CSF), which aims to raise $3 million for YMCA’s service programmes. The funds will be secured through 200 charter donors who donate $10,000 or more. The gala, which was hosted by local musician and producer Clement Chow at Parkroyal at Pickering on December 2, had over 200 distinguished guests in attendance including Lim Boon Heng, Chairman of Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd and Chairman of YMCA Advisory Council.
Later that evening, a silent auction was also held, featuring the works of 19-year-old artist with autism Vince Tan, who challenged Mt Fuji in the first-ever YMCA Inclusive Climb this year. To encourage inclusivity for persons with special needs, the YMCA of Singapore’s special needs staff and clients also held various roles such as ambassadors, ushers and cocktail reception waiters for the night before joining in for dinner. Special needs staff Zanariyah Binte Mohamed Abzul was also credited for her growth and outstanding performance working at the organisation.
One of the night's highlights was the opening dance performance by Y STARS (YMCA Special Talents, Arts and Recreation Society), a group of performers with special needs; the energetic showcase wowed all the guests that evening. Local group Peranakan Sayang also took to the stage, later on, to thrill the audience further.
The night was made even more meaningful as over $400,000 was raised for the YMCA Community Services Fund, making it a memorable night for all.
