Tod’s chairman, Diego Della Valle, tells us more about this partnership with the well-loved Elbaz

Tod’s Factory’s inaugural capsule collection with Italian designer Alessandro Dell’Aqua proved to be a hit—and the label recently announced that they’ve tapped Lanvin’s former creative director, Alber Elbaz, for the next instalment.

“Tod’s is a revered story—my grandfather was the number one artist for shoes in the world, and it’s fantastic and we need to maintain that, but also to be able  to speak with our existing clients and reach new clients too,” said Tod’s chairman Diego Della Valle, when quizzed about the rationale for the Tod’s Factory project.

Last year, Tod’s Factory—or T-Factory as it’s also known was unveiled and it helped to steer the brand away from the traditional business model and towards the fast-paced fashion reality. The capsule collections are limited and produced bi-yearly, putting Tod’s high on the radar of the younger generation.

Tod’s have also rolled out new retail concepts, which reflect its ongoing efforts to adapt to the changes in the luxury industry and to connect with savvy shoppers, evident from the unveiling of the Tod’s Apartment in London, a new category of boutiques that combines the traditional retail model with that of a café and lounge.

The T-Factory collection places a large emphasis on the importance of collaborating with both well-known and emerging designers, and Della Valle teased that the collection will “mix Alber’s creative genius with Tod’s heritage—creating something that’s true to our DNA but with an urban touch.”

The Tod’s Factory x Alber Elbaz capsule collection will be available in all Tod’s boutiques worldwide.
