Make the most out of your mealtime with our roundup of timely treats

If you’re heading to Jewel Changi Airport when it officially opens on April 17, we recommend you join the queue at a couple of hot and new burger joints. But if you're willing to wait for the hype to die down, there are equally decadent options elsewhere that will satisfy your cravings for a quick and easy meal.

1/5Meat Smith

Burgers for lunch are always a good idea at Meat Smith. But if you can, take time to savour this well-positioned offer, the Burnt Ends x Meatsmith marmalade cheeseburger, available until April 17. It tastes as good as it sounds; the thick patty is made with 110 grams of beef and brisket and 55 grams of beef marmalade, which is elevated with thick slices of gooey American cheddar cheese, zingy house pickles and a special burger sauce. Sandwiched between two brioche buns that soak in all the goodness, every big bite warrants a pause.

2/5Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer

Speaking of top places for good burgers, Black Tap has expanded its menu to include locally-inspired alternatives; we also dig the chilli crab sandwich, an inventive rendition of the island's famous crab dish where a crisp-battered soft shell crab is bookended by pillowy potato buns and served with a side of homemade coleslaw and mini mantou buns on the side. The idea is to dip it in the accompanying chilli crab sauce.

The Straits Shake, named after the Singapore Straits, deserves mention too. This gigantic milkshake has a vanilla base that’s topped with gula melaka syrup and coconut cream, and other inspired toppings, such as pineapple jam biscuits, coconut butter biscuits and even a pineapple popsicle.

3/5Bar Cicheti

There’s no better way to taste the beauty of spring's bounty than with a menu of pasta dishes. High on our list is the spaghetti prepared two ways: with piquant house-made jalapeño pesto and in a classic briny vongole. Best enjoyed with the fresh and bone-dry 2015 CVNE Monopole Clásico.

Make it a feast and share the corzetti as well; these medallion-shaped pasta are prefect for carrying heaps of earthy porcini and button mushrooms that go into the flavour-packed marsala sauce. The bucatini, on the other hand, is doused in a savoury saffron broth and tossed with spring peas, seared Hokkaido scallops and finished with citrus zest.

4/5Shake Shack

Arguably the hottest opening at Jewel Changi Airport is American burger chain Shake Shack. The mega mall opens on Thursday (April 18), and you can expect fans to make a beeline for its mouth-watering signatures, the most famous being the ShackBurger. Made with 100 per cent grilled angus beef that is then blanketed in melted cheddar cheese, and topped with lettuce and the secret Shake Shack sauce.

You’'re going to be queueing for, so make it worth the wait and effort by including an order of other faves, such as the Shack-cago Dog or Vienna beef dogs, its crisp cut fries, house-made ice cream and shakes?

5/5Burger & Lobster

Another feted debut is this London import located at the Canopy Park at Jewel Changi Airport. If you haven't already guessed it, it's famous for its sumptuous burgers and lobster rolls. From the succinct menu, the prime burger stands out for its juicy and succulent Nebraskan beef patties boosted with extra cheddar cheese, bacon and a secret sauce.

If you’ve had too many burgers this week, you can always go for the lobster roll, which uses fresh produce from Nova Scotia and Canada, similar to how it's served at their outlets in the United Kingdom.
