Where to Eat in Singapore This Week: Basilico, Capital Kitchen, The Alkaff Mansion, Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, Origin Grill
It’s a good week to dine out with your family and friends, thanks to our talented chefs who keep enticing us with one-off anniversary menus, novel concepts and dishes, as well as exclusive events. While you’re rediscovering the island’s best restaurants, why not join the United We Dine campaign and get rewarded with staycation and dining vouchers?
The Italian stalwart is celebrating its 12th anniversary with a special à la carte menu featuring executive chef Angelo Ciccone and the team’s signature dishes over the years. Created by Ciccone himself in 2011 is the focaccia al tartufo, featuring mascarpone, provolone and three-milk robiola cheeses sandwiched between crisp pizza dough, and showered with generous shavings of Norcia black truffle.
Head chef Luca Beccalli’s reimagined take on the humble lasagna, which has been on the menu since 2016, is also part of its signature hits. It’s the ultimate comfort food, as the luscious dish comprises silky beef ragout (slow-cooked for 12 hours) and decadent fontina fondue layered between homemade pasta sheets. The Best of the Best menu is available for lunch and dinner until August 31. Book here.
2/5 Capital Kitchen
The Zouk Group won’t be opening its club anytime soon; thankfully, the second-floor space has been put to good use with a 100-seat pop-up dining concept called Capital Kitchen.
Its menu is a delectable collection of Asian and Western dishes, as well as limited-edition creations from local Singapore collaborators. For instance, its burnt cheesecake is from the famed Paparch bakery, while the selection of burgers comes from Five Guys.
There are staples, too, including the addictive fried chicken wings coated in homemade spices and curry powder; the signature beer-battered fish and & chips; and the fiery gamberi aglio oglio, created by the group’s CEO, Andrew Li. Extensive tipples are also on offer, and you’ll do well to order a bottle of medium-bodied Chateau Bourgneuf Pomerol 2015 to accompany the feast. Book here.

3/5 The Alkaff Mansion
Staying true to the spirit of Basque gastronomy, The Alkaff Mansion is bringing the country’s famed “Semana Granda” festival (also known as Great Week) to Singapore from August 22 to 30.
During this period, the restaurant will transform into a bustling Basque oasis set up with live stations, so you can see the chefs in action. Of course, they’ll be serving specialities such as mini wagyu beef burger with shredded pimento pepper, onion and leek; deep-fried oyster with garlic aioli; and Iberico pork secreto with carrot noodle and marinated tomato.
It’s not a party without tipples, and there’s a gamut of choices ranging from Basque cider, cava to Spanish reds and whites. Book here.
