Jaan Affirms New Direction With Name Change
Four years after chef Kirk Westaway took over at the helm, Jaan, one of Singapore’s hottest dining destinations for modern European gastronomy, has been aptly renamed Jaan by Kirk Westaway. This change affirms the new direction the restaurant has been showcasing with great success, and it comes a year after the 34-year-old Devon-native launched his acclaimed Reinventing British menu.
“It has always been my plan,” Westaway told T.Dining, before noting how the timing was just right to proclaim his “devotion to take Jaan to the next level”.
He may have taken his time to make the play given the natural inclination, but his playful yet studied expression of British foods and produce remains a testament to the matured restraint he’s always shown, particularly when it came to his creative culinary style.
Launched in July 2018, his Reinventing British menu now boasts iconic dishes, such as the English Garden, which spotlights more than 30 ingredients. Closer to home, the Devon Cheddar Cheese Buckwheat Pancake, Devon Cream Tea and Devon Butter, served alongside freshly baked Country Sourdough, all pay homage to his hometown and its reputation for premium dairy products.

“It is an honour to make my mark on our forward-thinking new dining concept—one that has come to symbolise home for me in so many ways,” Westaway shared in a recent statement. “In Singapore’s dynamic culinary landscape, it’s important to recognise the increasingly discerning needs of our guests by continuing to push boundaries and evolve with refreshing concepts.
“I’m incredibly thankful for my driven, dedicated team and very excited to take Jaan by Kirk Westaway into a new chapter.”
Of course, Westaway’s creative touch stretches beyond the restaurant’s culinary offerings, curating the entire ambience, from the restaurant’s playlist and hand-made ceramic tableware to the bespoke weekly flower arrangements that help celebrate the seasons.
Most, though, will be keen to see how his pioneering British-inspired menus continue to evolve to reflect an even more personal manifestation.
