The founder and owner of Violet Oon Singapore, Violet Oon is a veritable icon in the local culinary scene and a renowned champion of Peranakan cuisine. Her first Violet Oon’s Kitchen, which opened in the 1990s at Takashimaya, comprised a food counter and glass-enclosed kitchen. More than 20 years and a rebranding exercise later, the ex-food journalist now oversees three thriving restaurants with the help of her two children, Yiming and Su-Lyn. In 2016, she was inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame. Her goal for 2018: writing her life memoirs.
