Certified by Guinness World Records as the world's most valuable handbag, Mouawad's 1001 Nights Diamond Purse earns its owner unprecendented bagging rights

If anyone was going to make the world's most expensive purse, you know it'd be the House of Mouawad - after all, this is the same jewellery brand that previously earned a place in the Guinness World Records in 2003 for its US$11 million bra - the most expensive ever made - created in collaboration with Victoria's Secret.

Moving deftly from brassieres to bags, Mouawad has now unveiled the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, a heart-shaped piece handcrafted from 18-karat gold and dripping with 4,517 diamonds (105 yellow, 56 pink, and 4,356 colourless, for the detail-oriented) that weighs in at a whopping 381.92 carats. At US$3.8 million, it has been certified by Guinness World Records as the world's most valuable handbag.

As its name suggests, the purse is inspired by that famous collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian tatler_tatler_stories. "Just as the tales of Scheherazade have captivated readers with their intricately woven plots of uninhibited passion and daring, so the 1001 Nights Mouawad Diamond Purse is designed to mesmerise with its lavish attention to detail and elaborate workmanship incorporating thousands of diamonds," said Pascal Mouawad, co-guardian of the House of Mouawad.

Putting this together certainly was no child's play, as we are told that it required the skills of 10 craftsmen working continuously over a period of four months, for a total of 1,100 hours. If time is luxury, this purse has truly bagged it.
