One of the most complex complications in watchmaking, perpetual calendars steal the show at Watches & Wonders 2021

You won't have to reset your watch with one of these perpetual calendar timepieces. Presented at Watches & Wonders 2021, these creations correctly display the month, date and day, with some even featuring a leap year indicator. They don't require any fine-tuning––well, at least not for up to 100 years, at which point they need to be adjusted by just one day.

Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar by A Lange & Söhne

Only a few thousand watches come out of A Lange & Söhne's workshop every year. The German company, which was established in 1869, is one of watchmaking's most respected. The pictured perpetual calendar has been added to the watchmaker's iconic Lange 1 collection, which made its debut in 2000, and a new month indication has been designed underneath its bezel. There are also days-of-the-week, leap-year and moon-phase displays with a day/night indicator. This watch measures a sizeable 41.9 mm and comes in pink gold with a grey-silver dial or white gold with a salmon dial. The latter is limited to 150 pieces.

Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar by Bulgari

For Watches & Wonders 2021, Bulgari has unveiled the world's slimmest automatic watch with a perpetual calendar function. This watchmaker isn't shy when it comes to brainstorming ideas for ultra-thin watches. Bulgari's manual-winding tourbillon and Octo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic both made headlines for being the thinnest of their kinds ever produced. This year, Bulgari has taken what is arguably the most useful grand complication in watchmaking and fit it into a case that's just 40 mm in diameter and 5.80 mm thick. Collectors can choose between a sandblasted titanium case and dial or a satin-brushed platinum case with a blue lacquered dial.
