Ulysse Nardin's Skeleton X strips away any x-tra material and adds innovation with a touch of sustainability
Skeletonised watches have always occupied a unique niche in watchmaking—there's certainly an allure to knowing that any extraneous material has been removed from a watch movement and that only the essentials have been left behind. The latest skeletonised timepiece to hit the market is the Skeleton X, released by respected Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin.
Part of Ulysse Nardin's Executive collection, the Skeleton X could be said to be a development on the Executive Skeleton Tourbillon from 2016, but with several tweaks made to the movement, case, and materials. The most significant part of the Skeleton X is its new Manufacture movement, the calibre UN-371. It is based on the UN-171 movement found in the Executive Skeleton Tourbillon, but the brand asserts that it has been completely redesigned.
For one thing, the tourbillon escapement has been removed and replaced with a regular escapement equipped with the extra-wide silicon balance wheel (complete with nickel flyweights and stabilizing micro-blades) found on Ulysse Nardin's Freak Vision, the cutting-edge timepiece released at the end of last year.
