Tatler friends and professional makeup artists recommend their favourite foundations

In 2020, it's no longer enough for foundations to perform their fundamental purposes—to conceal imperfections and create the perfect canvas for our make-up. Especially with all the mask-wearing throughout this Covid-19 pandemic, we are looking for foundations that are long-lasting and smudge-proof, and are packed with skin-loving ingredients that care for our complexion while concealing blemishes and uneven skin tone.

Sounds like a herculean task? Not so, if you know where to look. We ask our Tatler friends and Singapore's leading makeup artists for some insider recommendations.

1/8 Cosme Decorté AQ Radiant Glow Lifting Liquid Foundation

“I like foundations that give off a dewy finish rather than a full, matte coverage. The AQ Radiant Glow Lifting Liquid Foundation helps bridge the gap between skincare and makeup. The foundation is infused with birch water to moisturise and hydrate the skin. Even though it gives a skin-like finish, it has buildable coverage which blurs lines and corrects uneven skin tone.”

Chloe Ng, trainee lawyer

2/8 Kanebo The Exceptional The Cream Foundation

“One of my favourites is The Cream Foundation from Kanebo The Exceptional. A little goes a long way. There's no cracking into fine lines and it gives good coverage without looking heavy at all.”

Clarence Lee, makeup artist

3/8 Diorskin Forever Skin Glow Fluid Foundation

“When I need my skin to look perfect and have a red lip look, I reach for this. It glides onto the skin and has that subtle glow that doesn't look oily. It also gives me beautiful skin without looking plastered.”

—Cheryl Ow, makeup artist

Cheryl Wee, founder of Cheryl W.

5/8 Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup SPF 10 Foundation

“A little goes a long way for Estée Lauder's Double Wear foundation and the coverage can be buildable. I like that it gives a nice, natural matte finish.”

—Keith Bryant Lee, makeup artist

6/8 Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation

“I'm into vegan-friendly and cruelty-free brands, and I love that Tarte's Amazonian Clay foundation is packed full of skin-friendly ingredients like vitamin E and mineral pigments.”
