It’s time to bring indoor dressing out to the streets—pre-fall 2021’s comfiest trend will take you from the bedroom to the boardroom
After spending most of 2020—and for some of us, even 2021—indoors, it's hardly surprising that our wardrobes would reflect this new normal of the world. For pre-fall 2021, designers picked up on the shift in more relaxed dress codes and the increasing acceptability of homewear to give us... glamorous, going out pyjamas. They key to looking elegant in jammies? Choose a version in luxurious silk or with a wild print that will turn up the dial on style.
While the concept isn't new—Miuccia Prada has long extolled the virtues of a chic matching set for social occasions at Prada—this season's take on traditional sleepwear has reached new heights, and proportions. As seen at Balenciaga, Adeam, and Jil Sander, proportions of pyjamas were big, but the emphasis on fit and cut was exacting, making their versions more glam than glum.
Print is also a great way to play up the fashion factor—look to Missoni, Rosetta Getty and La DoubleJ for inspiration on how to punctuate your look with a graphic pop. Meanwhile, PJ stalwarts can cast their eye on Marino Moscone and Alberta Ferretti, whose take on sleepwear will take you from bedroom to... just about anywhere really.
And lastly, just for fun, Bottega Veneta's full-feathered look is a witty take on the marabou-feathered sleeping gown, and will surely make people take a double take as you head around town.
