We're calling it: fishnets are one of the most relevant trends to come out of the spring-summer 2021 season

Fishnets are fashionable again. Not in the way you'd expect—as stockings—but as a much broader trend on the runway. From Hermès’ Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski to Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, designers cast their nets open and brought about one of the most suitable trends for summer. At Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia forged his take on the fishnet out of metal links, layering them over a skin-tight body suit; Dries Van Noten opted to fashion his in brights—whether worn as a skirt or pulled over an outfit like a sweater; while Riccardo Tisci played with the literal idea of oceanic motifs at Burberry—his SS21 collection was, after all, based on a "love story between a mermaid and a shark"—for his take on the trend.

With its loose yet figure-conforming quality, the appeal of fishnets for summer is easy to see: throw one on for day to up your style ante, while pairing it with a sensual gown at night makes for an irresistibly glamorous combination.
