Tatler Tries: We Review LG Pra.L’s Personal Beauty Care Range, Including The Highly-Raved Derma LED Mask
In July this year, LG made its foray into personal beauty care devices with the international launch of the LG Pra.L range—the Dual Cleanser, Galvanic Ion Booster, Total Lift Up Care, and Derma LED Mask. And despite its popularity in home country South Korea where they were first launched, the range had a lot to prove for itself.
Beauty gadgets are not a particularly new market. From basic cleansing devices to derma-planing and micro-needling tools, these at-home beauty care gadgets have been quickly catching up to what’s available at the facial salon and even the medi-aesthetic clinic (albeit with less potency).
It’s not a surprise why they are so popular. With the jet-packed schedules of today’s millennials, there’s simply no time for regular visits to the beauty therapist—most women I know (myself included) only go to the beauty salon once in two to three months. Personal beauty devices, on the other hand, offer you the flexibility to use them whenever you want, seamlessly fitting into your lifestyle.
This is exactly what LG Pra.L promises, using various skincare technologies in its devices to cleanse, nourish, lift and firm the skin. Used as part of your daily routine, the range acts as a boost to your beauty regimen and delivers lasting radiance between your trips to the beauty salon. You can even take it on your travels—each device boasts USB type-C plugs for easy charging and a resilient battery life that lasts for several uses. We put the four products to the test over a course of one month to see how they fare.
1/4 Dual Cleanser
The LG Pra.L Dual Cleanser is pretty straight-forward. With two brush options: a gentle silicone brush and a fine fibre brush for deep pore cleansing; and two levels of cleansing: 70 seconds and 120 seconds; the device uses micro vibrations to purify the skin of dead skin cells and impurities, reducing blackheads and the appearance of clogged pores. There’s even voice assistance to guide you through the cleanse, so you can be assured that every part of your face gets equal care and attention.
With an IPX7 waterproof rating, the Dual Cleanser was perhaps the easiest to incorporate into my daily routine because I could bring it into the shower. I used it with the silicone brush for 120 seconds every night—70 seconds felt a little too short to thoroughly cleanse my skin of the dirt and grime from the day—and I loved how clean it made my face feel after every wash.
The fine fibre brush is best used once or twice weekly for deeper exfoliation and cleansing, but because my skin is on the thinner side, I only used it on days when my face felt extra grimy—otherwise, the silicone brush is my go-to. My favourite detail is that it comes with a charging cradle that emits UV light, so your brush is sanitised when it is not in use.
The Month After
Despite my best efforts, I have never managed to completely eradicate blackheads from my combination skin, but I think the Dual Cleanser did help in delaying their return between extractions, which earns it a place on my dresser. I also tend to break out when I travel overseas, so I took it along with me on a leisure trip to Taipei, which helped keep the breakouts at bay.
2/4 Galvanic Ion Booster
Harnessing the effects of iontophoresis, the Galvanic Ion Booster comes in two modes—Cleansing, which draws out impurities from the deeper layers of your skin using thermal therapy and positively-charged ions, and Boost, which utilises ultrasonic waves, thermal therapy and negatively charged ions to deliver active ingredients of skincare deeper into your skin, giving your skincare regime a boost. The metal plate is made with medical implant-grade materials, and its triangular design allows it to glide effortlessly over all your contours.
Another of my favourites from the LG Pra.L range, the Galvanic Ion Booster was also incredibly easy to incorporate into my routine, which I used on an average of two to three times a week. According to LG, the Galvanic Ion Booster is best used with a vitamin C serum and moisturising gel to increase the skin’s moisture level and elasticity, but I enjoyed using it with Clé de Peau Beauté's The Serum and Hydro-softening Lotion, both of which have a gel-like consistency that allows the device to glide smoothly on my face. The gentle vibration and warmth of the device is especially therapeutic.
LG recommends starting with the Cleansing mode before the Boost mode to maximise its effects. Since both modes just take three minutes each, it's not a hassle at all to include it in my night care regime—I’m guilty of skipping the first step when I’m feeling lazy on some nights, however.
The Month After
While there were no dramatic changes to my skin, I usually found my complexion to be more radiant, and plumper with moisture the next morning after using the Galvanic Ion Booster. This gadget has become a permanent fixture in my routine, and it is a step I look forward to on most nights.

3/4 Total Lift Up Care
Promising plump and youthful skin, the Total Lift Up Care offers two functions with three levels of intensity: the Tightening mode, which helps to trigger collagen production via high-frequency thermal therapy and red LED light, and the Lifting mode, which stimulates skin tissue and facial muscles with micro-currents. You can also opt for the full 18-minute course, which rotates between the two modes. These technologies are known to improve the appearance of enlarged pores, wrinkles and fine lines, as well as increase your skin’s elasticity.
The Total Lift Up Care course begins with the Tightening mode, which is very gentle. Although it uses red light and thermal therapy, I could hardly feel the heat in comparison to the Galvanic Ion Booster. The Lifting mode, on the other hand, took me by surprise. The micro-currents were slightly uncomfortable at first because of the prickling sensation, but that is exactly what it does—lift your contours by stimulating your facial muscles.
Unlike the Dual Cleanser, there is no voice assistance to guide you on which area to massage, but the device beeps every five seconds so you can pace yourself as you manoeuvre it from one area to the other. The manual also suggests moving the gadget in an upward motion for the best lifting effects. I used it with Elizabeth Arden’s Advanced Ceramide Capsules at least once a week.
The Month After
According to LG’s research, 92 per cent of test participants saw improvements in the lifting of double chin and 88 per cent saw improvements in skin density around the eyes after using the Total Lift Up Care twice a week for two months. At 27, I’m thankfully not in dire need of firming care, but perhaps due to the micro-currents, my jawline did appear to be more defined after each use.

4/4 Derma LED Mask
The star product of the LG Pra.L range, the Derma LED Mask utilises 160 infrared and red LED lights, which penetrates the skin at different depths, to uncover your skin’s natural radiance in just nine minutes. Red light therapy is also known for its anti-ageing properties—permeating into the subdermal skin layer, it helps to stimulate collagen production, as well as improve blood circulation and healing.
Worn over your face with eyeglass temples, the Derma LED Mask is designed with a silicone eye-shield and sensing detector within the mask that helps to protect your eyes from the red light, which will deactivate if the mask is positioned incorrectly.
The Derma LED Mask also boasts a transparent visor to see out of and optional velcro straps to secure the mask when you’re going about your daily routine, but I preferred using it while laying down and relaxing, as the mask can feel a bit heavy. It can also be used with or without a skincare product—I used it weekly as the last step of my evening regime, after my night cream.
The Month After
While LG’s recommended usage is twice a week for the best results, I have to admit that I can get pretty restless sitting still for nine minutes, so I tried to dedicate at least one day each week to use the Derma LED Mask instead. As its intensity is not as potent as LED therapy machines in salons and aesthetic clinics, the mask takes more than a month for its effects to show. In the meantime, I’ll strive to be more diligent to achieve a brighter skin tone that other users have raved about.
