Through trial and error, Chloe Ng, daughter of socialite Nina Ng, has come up with an eclectic way of dressing that’s all her own

Chloe might only be 22, but this is already her second Singapore Tatler cover. She first fronted the March 2017 cover, with equally-stylish mom Nina Ng. The society darling has had lots of adventures in fashion, including the cancelled Dolce & Gabbana Show in Shanghai, and she told us all about it too.

Fashion Director Desmond Lim, who has styled her numerous times, reveals his thoughts on her style journey so far:

FASHION FEARLESSNESS

“Being immersed in the streetwear culture of London, where she studied, has impacted the way Chloe sees fashion and how she puts certain things together. I really like how she’s learnt to mix streetwear with high fashion.

There are hits and misses—she looks great on some days and on others, a little too overdone. That said, it doesn’t stop her from pushing boundaries when it comes to owning her look and dressing specifically for her body type. In fashion, there’s never truly a right or wrong way. One just needs to have the guts to try."

"She also knows when to switch things up for different occasions, whether it’s wearing heels with a pair of monogrammed sweatpants, or matching a Fendi slip dress with a limited-edition pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers.

She gives off quite a Rihanna-esque vibe, and she once told me, ‘I definitely don’t do simple very well. More is more for me, and the rarer an item, the more I want it.’ Case in point: her ever-growing collection of Supreme merchandise."

HER STYLE ICON

"Hip-hop music also plays a big part in Chloe’s fashion vocabulary—A$AP Rocky’s Fashion Killa is her anthem, and she likes how he styles designer outfits with sneakers. She was so into his distinctive style that she did extensive research on him. Once, she immediately googled the structured Raf Simons coat he wore to a fashion show and even frantically hunted down a mink bomber he had paired with good old Nike Air Force 1s."

SHE MAKES MENSWEAR HER OWN

"Chloe has also started looking at introducing more menswear into her wardrobe. With the industry shifting towards a more fluid and gender-neutral approach to dressing, I’d say that she’s taking the right route and will only continue to score major fashion points with her style.”
