Although her profession calls for monochromatic hues, this lawyer finds ingenious ways to wear colour, serving it sunny side up.

With her dimpled smile and bubbly personality, it is easy to see why 27-year-old Melissa Peh’s wardrobe is awash with bright, vivid hues. “I love colours and creativity,” she says. “Sometimes, I think I’d enjoy being a fashion designer but there are just too many things I want to do!”

“When I shop, I usually go for pieces with unique detailing or material,” Melissa shares, “I’m more interested in the design of each item rather than the brand.” That said, she is partial to a few labels including Gucci, Alice + Olivia and Self-Portrait.

“My favourite place in the world to shop is London,” says the daughter of legal eagles Adrian and Susan Peh, “I used to study there so it’s like a second home to me. Department stores such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Harrods offer a wide variety of brands, which is great, but I also enjoy shopping at independent boutiques because they stock a lot of the under-the-radar brands.”

Melissa’s love for colours and creativity stems from her childhood, where she trained in ballet and competed nationally in rhythmic gymnastics. After university in London, where she dabbled in jazz and contemporary dance, Melissa returned to Singapore where she explored Latin and ballroom dancing.

“I love the costumes as they are very elaborate—there are a lot of feathers, diamonds and crystals,” she says with a smile. “It’s just a lot of fun.”
