The stylist who counts Meryl Streep, Lupita Nyong'o and Michelle Dockery as clients shares her red carpet predictions for this year's nominees

In an intimate chat on this week's Tatler Talks, stylist to the stars Micaela Erlanger—whose long and impressive list of clients includes everyone from Meryl Streep to Lupita Nyong'o—shares how she got into the business (Michelle Dockery aka Lady Mary of Downton Abbey was her first-ever client!) as well as the fashion emergencies she's had to solve over the years.

Having crafted the iconic red carpet looks of many stars––perhaps most notably the Lupita Rainbow––we ask her how this year of virtual red carpets has been different and what she thinks the talented nominees will wear for the Oscars on April 26.

"I think we'll be seeing people who go all out and want to look fabulous but I think we'll also see people who are just as comfortable in fancy PJs."

Vanessa Kirby, nominated for Pieces Of A Woman

"Her style has evolved quite a bit, she's going for sleek, powerful, minimalist looks this season form the Versace to the Valentino look she did during the Venice Film Festival. Her stylist this season works with a very specific colour palette, it tends to be black, white or red, so I would guess it'd be one of those three colours."

Viola Davis, nominated for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

"She's been killing it, her stylist is Elizabeth Stewart who does an amazing job with her. What I love is she's been wearing African designers this awards season. She wore Claude Kameni for the Golden Globes and all these amazing young talent, so I wouldn't be surprised if she continued on this trajectory and wore something colourful and vibrant like she tends to do."

Frances McDormand, nominated for Nomadland

"I love her, she always surprises me. I wouldn't be surprised if she wears Valentino though, given her great relationship with the house. she always does something unexpected and wild from crazy headpieces to giant trapeze dresses so I'm really looking forward to seeing what she'll wear."

Carey Mulligan, nominated for Promising Young Woman

"I love Carey's style, she's so elegant but there's something very cool and understated. Maybe it'll be a Prada moment or Miu Miu, I think it'll be very beautiful either way."

Glenn Close, nominated for Hillbilly Elegy

"I think she'd be in a suit, I think she rocks a suit, or really fancy pyjamas. If anyone were to do fancy pyjamas I feel it'd be her. If not a knock-out suit, at least some great tailoring, maybe it's a jumpsuit but I can see her in something really sharp."

Youn Yuh-jung, nominated for Minari

"I can see her in some great jewellery, I mean right now it's all about Zoom and framing the face. She's making these bold statements, I wouldn't be surprised if she does it through her accessories.
