We ask Sephora Collection's Good Skincare Formulator Albane de Bodman to reveal more about her skincare beliefs, her must-have product, current obsession and more below.

If there is someone who knows the ins and outs of the beauty industry, including what goes on in the laboratories of cosmetic companies, it has to be global beauty retailer Sephora's Albane de Bodman.

As Sephora Collection's Good Skincare Formulator, she is responsible for product development for the Goodskincare range by Sephora Collection. This line of products is specially formulated with natural ingredients and come in eco-friendly packaging.

Her job sees her writing new product concepts as she works with laboratories to formulate the most suitable formulas, designs tests that products go through before being launched, and is also in charge of writing all product-related explanations. Having worked in Asia and Europe, she is also acutely aware of the different beauty expectations of women around the world and stays updated with the latest skincare trends.

We ask de Bodman to reveal more about her skincare beliefs, her must-have product, current obsession and more below.

How long do you typically spend on your skincare routine?

Around 15 minutes. It needs to be quick, fast-absorbing and effective.

What is your skincare routine like for the day?

In this order: cleanser, serum, eye cream and moisturiser. When I know that I’ll spend time outside I’ll add an SPF in the summer. I sometimes have to skip my routine to try several formula submissions; to be sure that I evaluate them properly, I prefer to have my skin clean of any skincare product.

What is your skincare routine for the night?

I use a cleanser, eye makeup remover and a night mask.

What was the last skincare product that you bought?

A mineral SPF sunscreen from a small brand called Comme Avant. It has only five ingredients in it and I was super curious to try it!

Are there any new skincare trends that you’re excited to try?

Mineral SPFs are my obsessions these days since summer is coming: they are safer for skin and the ocean, but sometimes can be super greasy and leave a white cast. Finding the perfect match for my skin takes a bit of time!

When did you start paying extra attention to your skin?

When I was a teenager, I started to go to the dermatologist and pay attention to my skin and product routine.

What’s one skincare must-have you’ve “influenced” others to purchase?

Sephora Collection's Ultra Glow Serum, which gives you this perfect touch of additional glow in a super lightweight texture

What’s a skincare product you can’t live without?

Anything with hyaluronic acid.

What’s the most important skincare step to you?

Cleansing! Without a proper cleanser, nothing can get absorbed properly.

Is skincare the new self-care? What are your thoughts on this?

Totally agree! All the lockdowns made us realise how crucial a good skincare routine was.

What is one piece of skincare advice that you live by?

Try and experience. One product can be perfect for your best friend but doesn’t suit your skin. You need to try it yourself, to build your own perfect routine.
