1. IWC

  • 2018 is IWC’s 150th anniversary, and the brand has celebrated with a bumper crop of 28 limited edition watches, culled from across the brand’s collections, and united in what the brand terms its Jubilee Collection.
  • The talking piece of the collections—or indeed the whole fair—is the IWC “Tribute to Pallweber”, a minimalist digital display wristwatch with jumping minutes and hours that took the brand over 4 years to complete. It has 3 patents attributed to it.
  • The digital display of the Pallweber looks incredibly modern now, but the original pocket watch that it was based on was from 1884. How’s that for modern?

2. Girard-Perregaux

  • Girard-Perregaux’s novelties this year revolved around its classic Bridges collection, as well as the Laureato, which had been previous resurrected from the archives last year,
  • The standout from the novelties, however, is definitely the Minute Repeater Tri-Axial Tourbillon, which boasts a huge 48mm case that is 22mm thick, crafted in titanium to get the most clear and resonant sounds from the minute repeater. The extraordinary size also allows you to appreciate the beauty of the movement even more, thanks to the depth of the space available.
  • Those who prefer a more lightweight option, however, couls spring for the new Neo-Tourbillon Skeleton with Three Bridges, which is the first ever skeletonised version of the brand’s famous Neo-Tourbillon with Three Bridges, whcih it has been producing since 1884.
