The much-loved beauty brand’s much-anticipated 2021 rebranding offers long-time fans and curious inquirers a plethora of customisable take-home solutions

It’s now an award-winning cult spa and skincare brand, but what set Porcelain apart from other spas when it was first established in 2009 was the fact that it focused on deep extractions and holistic solutions rather than quick fixes. Co-founding mother-daughter duo Jenny Teng and Pauline Ng followed that up with the launch of their first skincare product in 2010, and the rest is history.

“From Day 1, the Porcelain philosophy has stemmed from knowing how cells work. Solutions are developed with that naturalistic approach in mind to restore skin’s health back to equilibrium,” says Ng, who is the brand’s Director. “This is a continual and delicate balancing act as our skin is a living organ. We believe in correcting your skin issues from the inside out, instead of using a symptomatic approach which may cause recurrence, or sensitised skin.”

Above Porcelain Essentials Hydro Cleanser is a gentle cleanser comprising eight natural ingredients that effects a clear and glowing complexion with each wash—even for sensitive skin.

Porcelain has since been featured twice in the Louis Vuitton City Guide (2015 and 2019), and is a regular winner in the World Luxury Spa Awards, the Haute Grandeur Global Spa Awards, and Singapore Tatler’s Best of Singapore Awards. In 2019, it opened Singapore’s first smart spa and wellness café concept store in Paragon, and the odd year that was 2020 has not slowed it down one bit: Five new products were successfully launched from 2019 through 2020, and 2021 brings a major rebranding of Porcelain Skincare.

Finding Perfection in Imperfection

The relaunch of Porcelain’s award-winning skincare line, which makes it possible to enjoy a slice of the Porcelain Spa experience at home, holds true to the brand’s philosophy of confident self-acceptance and treating skin issues from the cellular level by supporting the skin’s natural ability to self-heal.

Each product and its ingredients has been rigorously tested, and is gentle enough for sensitive skin while being adaptable to a diversity of needs. Individual customers can use the products differently by varying the product mix, dosages, and regimens, with the goal of achieving healthy, radiant skin from the inside out.

Above Porcelain Essentials HA+ Hydrating Serum boasts dual-chained hyaluronic acid, six hydrating ingredients, antioxidants, and probiotics to improve cellular moisture and gently restore the skin’s natural resilience.

The rebranding is inspired by the traditional Japanese art of kintsugi (“gold joinery”), in which broken ceramics are repaired with gold adhesives such that the joins are clearly visible, showcasing the restoration as part of an object’s unique history.

Pursuing perfection isn’t about conforming to unrealistic beauty standards. Instead, it’s about embracing our individuality. Just like the cracks in the porcelain bowls that are repaired, each skin imperfection is unique. At Porcelain, we are here to correct it, not conceal it.

Bringing out Your Best

The Essentials range is a good introduction to Porcelain Skincare; this collection of eight products is completely free of sulphates, parabens, silicons, drying alcohols, and phthalates. They are also cruelty-free. Foundational basics like the Porcelain Essentials Hydro Cleanser and the Porcelain Essentials Skin Perfecting Moisturiser SPF30 are bestsellers for good reason: The former is packed with antioxidants and soothes and hydrates even sensitive skin while freeing it from impurities, and the latter offers weightless, breathable coverage and protection while preventing pore congestion.

Porcelain Skincare products are available even to customers who do not patronise the Porcelain Spa. Ng quips, however, that “if you are a patron of our spas, you can benefit from the added advice of our spa’s beauty consultants on how to best use the products for your particular skin condition”. This is because Porcelain thrives on its feedback loop system, in which the brand aims to be a lifelong beauty partner that travels with every individual through the evolution of his or her skin.
