The patient always comes first at this premium TCM centre, which is now in its 13th year of service

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)'s approach to wellness and overall development of a healthy body has always been to get to the root of health issues and not just the symptoms.

This kind of holistic health concept is what Bao Zhong Tang Premium TCM Centre has practised for more than a decade. First set up as a private joint venture of SingHealth and the Shanghai Hospital Development Centre (SHDC) in 2007, it offers a variety of TCM services such as herbal medication, acupuncture, Tui Na, moxibustion, auricular-point pressing therapy, paediatric Tui Na, post-partum care and much more, each administered by the clinic’s stellar team of physicians.

Patients are at the heart of the clinic, and the physicians make it a point to involve patients in the decision-making process. Your opinions and preferences are taken into account during diagnosis and discussion of your treatment plan, ensuring you feel comfortable all the way. “We believe that relationship building is a key aspect of our service. Our patients not only receive healing of the body but relaxation and healing of the mind as well,” says a clinic spokesperson.

TCM is like abstract art. We study the body, mind and spirit to paint a whole picture

One way that Bao Zhong Tang Premium TCM Centre stands out from other TCM centres is by the quality of care administered by an accomplished team of physicians. Some of the team are Master Physicians who are renowned in Shanghai and recognised with respectable “Shanghai Master Physician” statuses. Two of its team have also been recognised for their contributions to healthcare and research.

In 2017, Prof Yan Shi Yun and Prof Cai Gan were bestowed with the “China Master Physician” award that is only given to the top 100 physicians in China once in five years. They often advise and share their expertise with patients in Singapore, documenting their analysis and prescriptions thoroughly so that follow-up care by the clinic’s resident physicians is a smooth, hassle-free experience. Distance and language limitations aren’t an issue either, as remote consultations are available for those living overseas. Furthermore, many of the physicians are also bilingual, which simplifies communication between them and patients.

It is also the sole TCM clinic in Singapore to offer Gao Fang (herbal paste). Commonly prescribed in China as a nourishing supplement, the paste is customised to suit each person’s body constitution, and is made with the highest grade of herbs by the clinic’s senior consultant physicians. After a complete analysis of your body constitution, the physician will write you a customised prescription. Since Gao Fang is typically taken over the course of several months, it is made with special equipment and expertise, making it suitable for those with ailments as well as healthy individuals looking for an immunity boost

As TCM treatment and nourishment could span months for certain conditions, Bao Zhong Tang offers patients who are unable to visit the clinic the convenience of ordering their repeat prescriptions and brews online—with the physician’s approval—and have them delivered to them. However, patients are encouraged to have physical consultations with the physicians for all prescriptions for better monitoring.
