Manolo Blahnik x Castaner: An Unlikely Shoe Collab?
You probably never saw this coming: Iconic espadrille brand Castaner and heel-lover Manolo Blahnik teamed up to design a special collection–and its good.
In a special effort to celebrate their 90th anniversary, legendary espadrille brand Castañer unites with beloved shoe label Manolo Blahnik to create a capsule collection that shares their passion for handcraftsmanship and the zeal to create timeless pieces that surrender to beauty and feminity.
We can't help but fall in love with the collection, and here are our reasons why.
1) They both hail from the Mediterranean
Part of the reason why Castañer chose to collaborate with Manolo Blahnik was not only for Blahnik’s stellar reputation as a shoemaker, but their affinity to the Mediterranean. Blahnik himself hails from Palma and learned everything he knew by visiting factories and talking to operators, cutters and technicians just like the Castañer artisans in Catalonia.
2) They will be introducing new silhouettes and heels
While the flat espadrilles from the regular collection have round toes, the ones from the capsule will have an accentuated pointed front. The wedge was also be swapped out for Blahnik’s traditional stiletto heel in two different heights, bringing the collection to literal new heights and injecting a sense of casual everyday glamour to the collection.
3) The collection comprises of two different lines
Just like yin and yang, the collection is divided into two mini lines within the capsule. Manolo by Day brings the refined, exclusive personality of Blahnik’s to everyday life with Castañer. The series combines jute in its natural tone–applied on the heel, structure and sole–with linen fabric and laces. With Manolo by Night, the same pairs are swathed in jewel tone satin, similar to how we as people get dressed up to go out at night, so do our shoes.
4) Every single piece is handcrafted with care
Blahnik himself was personally involved with the design and development for each of the shoe models – from choosing the materials, colours and finishing details to developing the shape of it. Each model has a hand-carved last and is handmade by the Castañer artisans in the town of Banyoles in Catalonia with the same care and attention to detail as it was 90 years ago.
