Urs Ficher’s vision of the Capucine is both minimalist and surreal. This member of the ArtCap family stands out thanks to its remarkably realistic hanging food sculpture made from silicone.

Banana, strawberry, egg, mushroom, apple, and carrot sculptures are all available to construct a customised look and what may seem like a bizarre concept at first, makes for a fully realised—and wearable—art piece.

For his Capucine, Nicholas Hlobo was able to achieve incredibly vivid imagery of plants growing through the fabric of the bag. The artist’s craftsmanship allowed him to mix the media so playfully and effortlessly that, in the end, the blend of leathers feels unconstrained, natural and pleasant to the eye.

The striking contrast of delicate lines along with the smooth texture of the original Capucine and the apparent imperfection of blue leather fragments gives it just the right amount of edge.

A few years ago, art circles were buzzing with talk of Jonas Wood and his “landscape pot” paintings. Similar artwork served as an inspiration for Wood’s Capucine. The artist filled the leather canvas with abstract shapes and plant motifs embroidered onto the purse.

The black and white pattern is complemented with a matte powder pink Louis Vuitton logo, while a colourful accent–a whimsical metal giraffe figurine–completes the look.

Bold, glossy and jubilant are the perfect words to describe the candy-like fantasy created by LA’s Alex Israel for the ArtCap project. Succulent colors and rounded shapes make the bag’s composition incredibly alluring in its polished sheen. Above the bag’s zipper, two sky blue fins emerge asymmetrically.

The acrylic structures are removable, and are purely decorative pieces that add flair to the Capucine without compromising its functionality and the brand’s DNA. The handles in lustrous purple bend over the purse’s main body much like strings of licorice, which is a fun addition to its cotton candy aura.

Tschabalala Self’s craftsmanship and affinity for deconstruction transforms the Capucine bag with a series of patchwork designs. Its imperfection and jolliness is an exercise of the artist’s bold vision that works surprisingly beautifully with the Louis Vuitton brand.

The handbag’s pattern features 19 different leather types, including both precious and upcycled materials. The bright colors strengthen the artistry and elevate this bag into a work of art.
