The vintage 517 boot cut style gets a luxurious upgrade

Last year, Italian luxury fashion house Valentino debuted a surprise collaboration with Levi's at its Valentino Collezione show in Milan.

The designers came up with a model of the 517 boot-cut jean which features a design that is wider from the knee down in an attempt to allow space for footwear.

In 1873, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss created the humble pair of jeans. Symbolic of youth and ease, the garment held many negative connotations for a long while as it was associated with overly casual dressing.

It was not till the 1970s that denim jeans started becoming everyday wear for the masses and only much later that high fashion began to accept the garment into their fashion lineups.

The Valentino collection with Levi's is only a natural step forward in the fashion world as it embraces the modern versatility and youthfulness of a good pair of jeans.

In the collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli took Levi's iconic 1969 version of their 517 boot-cut jeans down to its vintage and unaltered form with a special dual-logo back tag that was designed especially for the collaboration.
