Princess Diana’s niece got married over the weekend, and naturally she turned to Dolce & Gabbana to make an Alta Moda wedding trousseau. Get an inside look with Tatler

Over the weekend, Lady Kitty Spencer—Princess Diana’s niece—got married to South African multi-millionaire fashion mogul Michael Lewis at a secret wedding ceremony at the Villa Aldo Brandini in Italy, reports People. The intimate event saw close friends and family in attendance: notable guests included her brothers Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp and Samuel Aitken (who walked the bride down the aisle), her twin sisters Eliza and Amelia Spencer, Viscountess Emma Weymouth and her husband Ceawlin Thynn, the Marquess of Bath, and several celebrity friends such as Pixie Lott and Idris Elba’s wife, Sabrina Elba.

And, of course, when it came to choosing a wedding dress, who better to bring the blushing bride’s vision of the perfect dress to life than her close collaborators Dolce & Gabbana?

Earlier this year, the aristocrat was formally announced as the brand’s first global ambassador, so it made perfect sense to turn to the Italian duo to create the wedding dress of her dreams. “Once she had received the proposal, she told us she had thought of us immediately, and we were very happy of that!” Domenico Dolce told Tatler UK in an interview.

The dress was inspired by a Victorian-era lace bridal gown, and included details such as a delicate row of buttons up the front of the dress, elegant puffed sleeves, a high neck, a fitted lace bodice and a full ballgown skirt. Spencer also opted not to wear the Spencer tiara when she walked down the aisle, choosing instead to complete her wedding outfit with a glamorous trailing veil decorated with lace.

From start to finish, the designers also revealed that the dress took around six months to complete, and just four fittings with Spencer.

Of the inspiration for the wedding dress, Domenico Dolce told Tatler UK, “One of the inspirations is definitely her love for Italy. Kitty is in love with our beautiful country and its rich history, art and culture.”

“But she is also a girl who is very attached to her origins, to England; to her heritage of the great Victorian era. And like all the English people, she has a great passion for all kinds of flowers,” Stefano Gabbana added.
