Love fashion and football? If you feel that your kit needs an update, look no further than these two stylish collaborations with Nike.
The sportswear giant has partnered with two fashion industry heavyweights—Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s division and Kim Jones, the current artistic director of Dior Homme—to create two stylish and vastly distinct collections inspired by football.
Nike x Off-White - “Football, Mon Amour”
For Abloh, who’s no stranger to the Nike family, he draws inspiration from memories of his youth—playing hip-hop tracks on the way to high school soccer matches—with his interest in mixing lifestyle and sport branding. His collection features pieces that are quintessentially Abloh, think design elements that act as a subtle nod to current football jersey designs as well as his signature quotation marks.
“The great thing about the vocabulary and history of football is that aesthetically it has its own look. I was always inspired by the way European teams have a sponsor printed over the chest. When I was working on this collection, I wanted to celebrate the different variants of typography," says Abloh.
Nike x Kim Jones “Football Reimagined”
For Jones, he takes the opposite approach. Instead of tweaking the football kit, Jones looks towards London’s famed Kings Road, drawing inspiration from the city’s punk culture and clashes avant garde tailoring with sport tech.
“That whole punk era was all about proportions that gave power to the wearer. I was inspired by the idea of DIY of the time—cutting up and putting things back together—to create something new,” says Jones.
The Nike x Kim Jones “Football Reimagined” collection and the Nike x Off-White “Football, Mon Amour” collection launches are available on nike.com and at select retail locations globally.
