Hublot Rolls Out Exclusive Southeast Asia Editions

The luxury watchmaker melds material innovation and bold design with watchmaking savoir-faire to create five exclusive watch designs for its Southeast Asian clientele

The importance a brand places on a certain market can be measured by the activities it regularly holds there. Looking at what Hublot has done in Southeast Asia in recent years, it’s obvious that the region remains a key driving force for the brand.

Besides boasting standalone boutiques in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Manila, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the watchmaker also consistently creates a lot of buzz on the marketing and event fronts. Who can forget the impressive large-scale pop-up stores and exhibitions, as well as unique parties that Hublot organises such as 2015’s Big Bang Party: Fight of the Jubilee in Singapore and 2018’s Match of Friendship event in Kuala Lumpur? Its recently announced partnership with the Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club in Malaysia as its official watch and timekeeper is one of the rare few Hublot has inked in Southeast Asia—evidence of the region’s significance to the watchmaker.

To further show its appreciation for the strong and unwavering support it has received from watch connoisseurs in the region, Hublot launched not one but five special South East Asia Edition watches late last year. They include the Big Bang 38mm “Steel Diamonds” SEA Edition, Big Bang 41mm Chronograph SEA Edition, Big Bang 44mm Chronograph SEA Edition, Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Ceramic SEA Edition and Spirit of Big Bang 42mm SEA Edition.

All of the timepieces embody the Hublot spirit through and through, especially with their predominantly black aesthetics—a look that Hublot popularised during the mid-noughties. The diamond-encrusted Big Bang 38mm “Steel Diamonds” and Big Bang 41mm Chronograph are designed with women in mind, while the rest of the quintet would appeal more to men because of their size and styling. But knowing how popular Hublot is with both genders, and how many of its clients are bold and adventurous risk‑takers, it won’t be surprising to see a man wear the glittery Big Bang 41mm Chronograph or a woman with the audacious-looking Spirit of Big Bang 42mm on her wrist.

1. Hublot Big Bang 44mm Chronograph SEA Edition

The Hublot Big Bang 44mm Chronograph SEA Edition stands out with its frosted carbon-fibre case and bezel. To achieve the “frosted” effect, carbon flakes are randomly set on the top layer of the carbon-fibre component during the prefabrication stage. Setting off a great contrast against the all-black carbon-fibre bezel, case and dial are the satin-finished 3N gold-plated appliques and hands (with white luminescent), as well as the 3N gold-plated H-shaped counterweight at the tip of the red central chronograph hand. The watch is equipped with the self-winding calibre HUB4104 that boasts a frequency of 4Hz and a power reserve of 42 hours

2. Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph

In line with the aesthetics of its men’s watches, the Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph retains the black-and-gold look. Its polished black ceramic case is contrasted against the satin-finished 3N gold-plated appliques, hands and polished H-shaped screws, as well as the King Gold rectangular chronograph pushers and crown—the first time Hublot produces these components in its proprietary gold alloy. One key difference between this ticker and the Big Bang 44mm Chronograph is its self-winding calibre HUB1155, a skeletonised chronograph movement with 42 hours of power reserve.

3. Hublot Big Bang 38mm “Steel Diamonds” SEA Edition

Timeless elegance is the best way to describe the Hublot Big Bang 38mm “Steel Diamonds” SEA Edition. Its classic stainless steel case is matched with a simple black satin-finished sunray dial and a bezel that sports a single row of larger diamonds, unlike the two-row configuration seen on the rest of the Big Bang watches. The ticker also comes with a date indicator at 3 o’clock and a matching black alligator strap with rubber underlays.

4. Hublot Spirit of Big Bang 42mm SEA Edition

Housed in a tonneau-shaped micro-blasted ceramic case, the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang 42mm SEA Edition is immediately the most outstanding piece among all the special-edition watches. The common thread remains the black aesthetic treatment, but like the rest of its brethren in the men’s collection, this piece continues with the use of satin-finished 3N gold-plated appliques, hands and polished H-shaped screws. The calibre HUB4700 housed within the Spirit of Big Bang is a workhorse, offering some 50 hours of power reserve and 100m water resistance.

5. Hublot Big Bang 41mm Chronograph SEA Edition

With a stainless steel case, diamond-studded bezel, black satin-finished sunray dial and black alligator strap with rubber underlays, the Hublot Big Bang 41mm Chronograph SEA Edition looks very similar to the automatic Big Bang 38mm. But the Big Bang 41mm Chronograph, which has a wider case, features applied military stencil‑style hour markers, red minute markers and three chronograph indicators on the dial. The central chronograph hand is, of course, in red to match the crimson accents on the dial.
