The Oscar-winning actress is Merz Aesthetics’ new global ambassador, making it the first time she’s partnered with a medical aesthetics brand. Below, she shares why she made the decision

Gwyneth Paltrow is no stranger to the realm of all things beauty-related. The Oscar-winning actress is well known for being a fan of outlandish beauty treatments, her wellness philosophy, founding her own lifestyle brand Goop and most of all: her authenticity. And now, the multi-hyphenate is the new global ambassador of Merz Aesthetics, the world’s largest dedicated medical aesthetics business.

“Confidence can look like a lot of different things to different people,” said Paltrow, speaking live from Los Angeles to members of the media across Asia Pacific during a virtual session on March 18.

“For me, it’s a matter of constantly reminding myself to connect to my authentic self. This means knowing when I need to take extra time to nurture every aspect of myself—mind, body, and spirit.”

Founded in 1908 and based in Frankfurt, Germany, the family-owned company's clinically-proven product portfolio includes injectables, devices and skincare treatments designed to meet each patient’s needs.

This partnership with Paltrow is the first global integrated marketing campaign for Merz Aesthetics since the company announced in November 2019 it would be operating independently as the largest dedicated medical aesthetics business globally. Together with the actress, Merz Aesthetics said it "aims to inspire women to choose beauty on their own terms and seek pure and proven products in the process".

It is also Paltrow’s first-ever medical aesthetics partnership—which begs the question: why now?

During the media session, Tatler Singapore asked Paltrow what inspired her to join Merz Aesthetics and she responded:

“It’s funny because I’ve been using their products for a few years and I’ve been a fan. And when they approached me, I felt it was a very easy alignment to talk about the brand. [When it comes to] beauty tips, some women are shy to discuss [this] but I wanted to help release that stigma a bit.”

Below, Paltrow shares more about her beauty philosophy, self-care tips in the age of coronavirus and more, in her own words.

On self-confidence

You have to be your own best friend and own champion and tell yourself you are on the path for a purpose and to speak positively to yourself. I also think being past 40 really helps. When I was younger I was really much less confident.

On her beauty philosophy

Ageing is part of life and it's wonderful and as we age we get more wisdom. But I really believe in a great skincare routine, drinking a lot of water, using Merz Aesthetics here and there, sweating, exfoliation—a lot of little things here and there!

On using pure products

It's really the cornerstone of my whole philosophy. At Goop, we make products that we test rigorously. It is the same when sourcing food, anything you want to put on and in your body—you want to make sure it works.
