The luxury maison transforms its most iconic bag in 2019 into au courant style statements for guys

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that the Fendi Baguette is back. The late-nineties It bag was seen under many a fashionista’s arm at the turn of the millennium, most notably that of actress Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, the stylish protagonist of hit TV series, Sex and the City.

Now, it is back in an even bigger way.

While the shape has remained the same, there is a new and unexpected twist to the Baguette game this time around.

Fendi has released versions of the bag for men, giving style-savvy gents access to the fashion‑forward bag. Available in three different sizes—mini, regular and maxi—the Baguette for men come in a wide range of materials, ranging from nylon, printed fabric and sheepskin. Worn around the waist, cross-body or slung over the shoulder, they somehow project a sportier vibe than the women’s versions.

The campaign for these new men’s bags includes a 30sec short film featuring three friends of the brand—fashion and music influencers Marc Forné, Leo Mandella and Nasir Dean—as they enter the contemporary Baguette World, surrounded by a library, flaunting their made-for-men Baguettes. The film was shot in the set-up of the Fendi men’s pop-up store in Milan that opened in June.

The Fendi Baguette may not be the first women’s bag to cross gender boundaries, but we think it is one of the few that has done so remarkably well. That is, it doesn’t appear like a reinterpreted piece or look out of place slung over the chest of a man. If you are a guy on the lookout for a functional bag that will instantly up your style cred, we think the search is over—get your hands on the new Baguette.
