Gaurav Gupta, who made his Paris Couture Week debut last month, is no stranger to dressing international celebrities. From Megan Thee Stallion to Fan Bingbing, he’s dressed some of the biggest names in entertainment

Grammy-winning American rapper Cardi B made headlines when she arrived at the 65th Grammy Awards in a glamorous gravity-defying royal blue gown by Gaurav Gupta.

The Indian designer, whose debut Spring collection at 2023 Paris Couture Week, has already been making waves in the fashion world thanks to his designs that involve a structural complexity akin to Dutch avant-garde designer Iris Van Herpen’s iconic futuristic style.

However, it’s not Gupta’s first time dressing major celebrities for the red carpet. From major film industry events like the Oscars and Cannes to music videos, his ensembles are eye-catching and becoming more and more instantly recognisable. Here are five times Gaurav Gupta design has left us in awe.

The rapper’s relationship with Gupta didn’t begin with this year’s Grammys look. She wore his Amorphous Shapeshifter Sculptural Outfit in her music video for No Love alongside musicians Summer Walker and SZA. In one scene, Cardi B is seen standing in a field of red roses, her pale ivory gown with its dramatic fall of fabric a visual representation of the romantic energy prevalent in the song.

This Bollywood actress once again had fashion-lovers gasping when she attended the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in a pearlescent pink custom-made Gupta gown. Named the Venus Sculpture, Rai’s dress could be interpreted as a modern version of Sandro Botticelli’s iconic Renaissance artwork, The Birth of Venus, with its embroidered sequins, carpet-sweeping train and a dramatic shell-like shoulder detail that framed her face.

Kylie Minogue glittered in a black one-shouldered gown to promote her new perfume, Disco Darling in December 2022 on her Instagram page. This ensemble—fittingly called Space Embellished Gown—pays homage to her stage costumes from the ’00s, and also references the ’70s disco era with its sheer panels and sparkly adornments.

American rapper Megan Thee Stallion brought drama and oomph to her Oscars red carpet debut in a shimmering silvery-blue strapless number with a myriad of crystals that reportedly took 1,500 hours to attach by hand. Inspired by mythical creatures of the sea, the elaborate dress featured a strapless bodice, a plunging sweetheart neckline, cut-out details at the waist and, of course, a voluminous train with sheer pleats that fanned out and trailed behind her.

5. Fan Bingbing

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing shone in this structural gown at the Handa Watch World Christmas Event in Tokyo in 2022. The black bodice was heavily embellished with crystals that clustered around the waist to create definition, and  designed in clusters that both defined the waist and elongated her silhouette.
