“No matter how many years go by, the impact [of the clothes] will stay the same because it’s powerful, and an honest reflection of its creator,” said Robert Wun, the Hong Kong-born, London-based designer who made his debut at Haute Couture Week in Paris in January 2023. Joining the ranks of style luminaries such as Chanel, Schiaparelli and Dior, Wun became the first Hong Kong designer to present his creations in the rarefied world of couture. For the show, Wun offered a meditation on fear, a prompt that stemmed from the pressure of putting together a collection in just a few months. What the designer came up with was nothing short of genius, with the idea of imperfection and disarray—red wine stains, burn holes, rain drops—incorporated into his geometric creations. Beyond the glory of the runway, his designs have been adopted by superstars, including Adele, who wore a custom Wun creation adorned with 15,000 Swarovski crystals.

A white gown encircled with a spiral of flowers, a jewel-toned dress with a bloom of feathers at its neckline—the dreamlike creations of Patty Ang have attracted a high-profile clientele, including Filipino actors like Dolly de Leon, international stars such as Aditi Rao Hydari and Vannessa Hudgens, and fellow Asia’s Most Stylish honouree, Roshan Valiram, who wore one of her designs, a top adorned with a statement-making silk satin ribbon outlined in pearls, in her Tatler Malaysia portrait. The fashion designer, who graduated from Central Saint Martins, also offers Patton, a line of everyday essentials that carries the same softness found in her bespoke work. Ang envisions these easy pieces will solve the dilemma of what to wear on busy days. “I believe what you wear every day reflects who you are,” she told Tatler

With a career that spans more than a decade, the multi-hyphenate creative Mughni Che Din is one of the stalwarts of Malaysia’s fashion scene. The former magazine editor channels his expertise in fashion design, styling, art direction and brand building into MCD Creative, his firm that helps companies communicate their stories, whether it is a high-profile magazine cover or the launch of a collection. Involved in creative direction, public relations and more, MCD is also aligned with Mughni’s vision for the photographers, copywriters and hair and makeup crew, who he described as “the backbone of this industry”. He added: “I want to create a space where all creatives—old and new—can create magic together and thrive.”

As the general manager of Far Eastern Department Stores (FEDS), the retail arm of the conglomerate Far Eastern Group, Nancy Hsu safeguards the legacy of Taiwan’s oldest department store chain, expanding its reach with the openings of Far Eastern Xinyi A13 and Far Eastern Zhubei in recent years. FEDS has shaped Taiwanese lifestyle for decades, with the opening of its Taichung branch in 1969 and its Baoqing store in 1972, the latter of which became a symbol of Taiwan’s stability in a time of economic crisis. Shifting times led to the closing of the Far Eastern Department Baoqing Store in July 2023—news that attracted crowds to the beloved landmark. On its last day, Hsu bowed to customers, thanking them for their loyalty and patronage. But fashion lovers need not worry: in its place, a larger eco-friendly building featuring all the amenities of a modern lifestyle hub will be built.

Lisa Von Tang told Tatler that her favourite style icon was Brigitte Bardot because of “...the way she wore things, which had this wildness, this sensuality”, adding that the legendary French actress would go barefoot “even in the city”. This affinity to sensory pleasures can be seen in the fashion designer’s creations (see her open-back silk chiffon gown or the peek-a-boo crochet dress), which are also inspired by Von Tang’s multi-cultural experience. The Chinese German designer was born in Canada but is based in Singapore, where she established her eponymous brand in 2017. Von Tang’s label spans continents, as well, with production divided between Asia and Italy, and has a focus on sustainability, using natural dyes and materials for clothes that evoke both strength and femininity.
