Cartier’s latest icon of a timepiece shows off a new super-svelte profile

Since its introduction in 2007, the Ballon Bleu De Cartier has become one of Cartier's most recognisable timepieces. Despite its youth, the watch, which is distinguished by its smooth, pebble-shaped case, has taken on various incarnations, spanning classy chronographs to bejewelled gems. This year, the Ballon Bleu De Cartier gets 'liposuctioned' with an ‘Extra-Flat' version, answering watch lovers' current predilection for skinny timepieces.

Available in a platinum-cased variant with metallic blue dial and sunburst finish (limited to 199 pieces), as well as rose and white gold models with silver dials, the collection is driven by the manual-winding Cartier Calibre 430 MC - the same movement featured in the Baignoire collection, as well as the Le Cirque de Animalier de Cartier range of artisan watches.

The skinny silhouette of the Extra-Flat Ballon Bleu De Cartier, measuring just 7.05mm thick, doesn't negate its show-stopping attributes. Accentuated by a generous 46mm case, the collection's signature attributes simply gets magnified, spanning the aforementioned iconic case shape, to winsome details such as cabochon-festooned winding crown, and the brand's signature sword-shaped hands and classic Roman numeral hour markers. Shorn of extra-functions, the Extra-Flat Ballon Bleu De Cartier allows one to instead focus on collection's most beloved features, where simplicity takes the spotlight.
