What you need to know about the Dyson Corrale, and where you can buy it now

THIS STORY WAS UPDATED ON JUNE 10, 2020

The Dyson Corrale cordless hair straightener, which was first unveiled earlier in March, is now available for purchase in Singapore. Eventually, when the Dyson Demo Store—Beauty Lab at Funan Mall and the Dyson Demo Store— Owner Centre at Capitol Piazza are given the green light to open, both stores will carry the product.

Meanwhile, you can get your hands on the Corrale by heading to Dyson Singapore’s online store, and there are two colourways to choose from: nickel/fuchsia and purple/black.

While cordless hair straighteners aren’t new, the Corrale has been touted to be more powerful with less reliance on heat, and is also the only one in the market that comes with flexing plate technology—resulting in less frizz and flyaways.

Unlike traditional straighteners, the unique flexing plates of the Dyson Corrale straightener mould to shape and gather hair, giving users greater control and therefore elevating the styling results.

It's suitable for all hair types and features Dyson’s Intelligent Heat Control for precise temperatures, together with four-cell lithium-ion battery technology, allowing it to be a cord-free styling tool.

The science that goes into styling

For those who want a glossy finish after straightening their locks, the Dyson Corrale has been engineered to ensure that hair is better-protected thanks to the research that has gone into the science of straightening hair: it took them seven years in development to create it.

The company has invested over £100 million into hair laboratories across the globe and employing thousands of hair scientists, engineers and professionals. Their teams have studied in detail everything from the structure of hair to airflow dynamics while understanding thermal, mechanical and chemical damage—and the subsequent effects on hair health.

We discovered that if the plates could conform to the precise profile of the tress, then with each pass we could apply the correct tension to all the hair strands. This means that we get an enhanced style and without excessive heat damage.

What are Dyson's unique flexing plates?

The company has developed a complex manganese copper alloy plate, featuring a carefully balanced amalgamation of six metals to provide the optimum flexibility, strength and thermal conduction. Those who are all too familiar with that static feeling when straightening hair will be pleased to note that each plate is precision machined to 65 microns—the width of a human hair—and tourmaline edged to produce ionising properties that will, therefore, help reduce static.

Heat control

Much like the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer and the Dyson Airwrap styler, the Dyson Corrale straightener features Intelligent Heat Control technology as well.

The Dyson Corrale straightener has three precise heat settings: 165°C, 185°C and 210°C. These temperatures allow the user to tailor the settings to suit their hair type and desired style. Although the general belief is that you'll achieve much straighter hair if you use more heat, this adaptability—combined with the increased control provided by the flexing plates—allows you to style your tresses at lower temperatures without compromising on results.

Cordless and travel-friendly

"We're rather experts in batteries. They're a very important area of us," says James Dyson, founder and chief engineer.

The Dyson Corrale straightener delivers the same thermal performance of a corded product but with its cord-free versatility and universal voltage, it also means that you can use the tool anywhere you want—whether it's after a gym session or in the back of a taxi.

It's powered by a four-cell lithium-ion battery, with a flight mode feature that also ensures the device meets air travel standards so it's easily packed in your cabin luggage, for future travels.

It fully recharges in 70 minutes and provides up to 30 minutes of cordless styling. You can also place the straightener into the ergonomic charging dock at regular intervals while styling or alternatively attaching the magnetic 360° charging cable so that it provides a hybrid charge mode for longer styling sessions.
