Dior shone as the guest of honour in the official line-up of Shanghai Fashion Week this week

For avid fans of Dior, the Long Museum West Bund in Shanghai may ring a bell. The location of the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition in 2020 was transformed into a disco dream for the unveiling of the French luxury brand's pre-fall 2021 collection by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri

A celebration of the most carefree era of our time, the pre-fall show debuted 75 stunning looks against pulsing pop music by Giorgio Moroder on a catwalk illuminated by disco balls and blinding lights—with surprise performances by Hong Kong pop star Joey Yung and Chinese rock band, Black Panther.

From the return of the French beret to the bright hues of red and yellow, we break down the captivating trends from the glittering show.

1/5 Leopard print is back

A coat in the iconic leopard print, one of Monsieur Dior’s hallmark designs, features among the stunning pieces at Dior's pre-show in Shanghai. But it doesn't stop there. Printed on bucket hats, tunic dresses, raincoats and quarter-zips, we have definitely spotted our favourite fall fashion trend.

2/5 Yellow is the warmest colour

Chiuri explores every shade of yellow, from mustard to neon, in this collection. Energetic, optimistic and hopeful—it's the perfect colour to bring us into a post-pandemic world, hopefully soon. Don't forget that Dior was the first major fashion house to hold a runway show since the coronavirus outbreak began last year.

3/5 See-through chic

Chiuri plays with see-through fabrics and panelling against different silhouettes of the oversized raincoat and deep vests—an open invitation for us to explore our creativity.

4/5 The return of the beret

Emily in Paris fans are probably revelling in their power and asking themselves: "Did we manifest everything French back into the mainstream?"

Well, whether they are responsible or not, the un-ironic beret is back and bringing with it quintessential French looks by Dior—from the horizontal stripes, chic suits and most excitingly, the revisited double-breasted Bar jacket.

5/5 Sparkling sequins

The global pandemic has given the fashion world the green light for their Best Hits World Tour. And naturally, sequins are one of the biggest stars, featured in collections by the biggest fashion houses, including Versace (remember Dua Lipa's 3-in-1 gown at the Grammys?), Chanel and now, Dior.

Paired with a full pleated skirt or adorning catsuits, crop tops and minidresses, Dior puts its own spin on the trend that is looking like it's here to stay.
