Plus, the best his-and-her couple outfits from Pierpaolo Piccioli's monochrome FW21 show, held at the historical Theatre Piccolo Teatro Grassi in Milan

Valentino Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli understands the importance music plays in a digital presentation.

In these remote times, he has the knack for creating the most emotive soundtrack of fashion week. Last season was no different, with British singer Labyrinth singing his heart out as models walked by.

For the FW21 show, titled the Valentino Act Collection, Piccioli picked the talented singer-songwriter Cosima whose haunting voice (with a hint of ’90s crooner Sade) is hard to forget. Cosima did a medley that started and ended with a cover of Sinead O’Connor’s hit from 1990, Nothing Compares 2 U, alongside the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, in the historical Theatre Piccolo Teatro Grassi in Milan.

Accompanying this powerful, melancholic soundtrack is a sensual womenswear and menswear collection in monochrome with hints of fluorescent acrylics, completing 'the vision of a wardrobe shared between men and women', as show notes indicate.

Motifs of fishnet tights, plaid and polka dots appear on the layered looks, with shortened silhouettes on women’s mini-dresses and coats and men’s trousers.

The popular Valentino Garavani Rockstud collection accessorised the models: macro studs were peppered on pumps, bags, boots and more.

The ubiquitous layering favourite in the show was the turtleneck with oversized fishnet mesh, worn under tailored shirts and blazers—and will no doubt be seen on the style set soon.
