The “Ballerina Butterfly” Brooch by Cindy Chao x Sarah Jessica Parker

Contemporary fine jewellery artist Cindy Chao has collaborated with American actress Sarah Jessica Parker to design a unique "Ballerina Butterfly" brooch that will be auctioned at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale on October 7. Net proceeds from the sale will benefit the New York City Ballet.

Parker, who previously attended the School of American Ballet in New York, was inspired by the graceful movements of ballet and incorporated these design elements into the brooch. The body has been crafted from gold and titanium, while the piece boasts a 26.27-carat cushion-cut fancy brown diamond, three rough brown diamond slices totalling 47.71 carats, as well as three rare conch pearls. The butterfly is surrounded by 4,698 white and fancy-coloured diamonds weighing a total of 98.09 carats.

The "Ballerina Butterfly brooch is estimated to sell for US$750,000 – US$950,000.
