Cheryl Wee Shares Her Christmas Wishes with Sister Rachel Wee

Dearest Mei,
Merry Christmas as a first-time mum with baby Ellery. I’m so proud of you and how far we have come as sisters, as childhood friends, and now as mothers.
Everything about Christmas is always cheery and magical. Now that we both have young children, I’m excited about reliving our childhood with them and creating new traditions for our own family.
I love how Papa is huge on Christmas, and he’ll always be the one getting the house ready with the Christmas tree, ornaments, and décor. Mama will always be baking fruit cake and on Christmas Eve, she’ll always cook up a storm.
Remember when we were younger, Mama would bring us to toy stores and shop for presents for other kids, so that we understand the spirit of giving and sharing during this festive season?

The most memorable Christmas for me was in 2005, when we had a Disney-themed party. Remember, Mama and Aunty Dawn organised and invited loads of kids to this? I remember it being memorable because Mama’s intention was to invite her staff and their children—most of them didn’t celebrate Christmas and she organised the party in the hopes of bringing joy to everyone.

I’m always reminded that Christmas is about love; the day Jesus came into this world. When we do the Advent prayers together and light up the Advent candles weekly, it feels extra meaningful. I find that centering ourselves to the original and true meaning of Christmas helps us grow in love and joy.
Though we probably can’t have a bigger gathering like in previous years, I’m actually looking forward to a more intimate one this year.

I’m really thankful that we’re now experiencing motherhood together, and you’ll be the aunt that my children Marc and Emma can run to.
Be it we be mothers or grandmothers, may we always have each other until we’re a hundred years old. Because I can’t imagine anyone else to journey with forever and always.
I wish you the most blessed Christmas.
Love, Jie
