From Monogram Lip Rings to Garter Bags: The Best Accessories from Chanel Cruise 2022
Trust Chanel to come up with the accessories and bags that we'll all be lusting over next season. Just last week, the French maison unveiled its cruise 2022 collection in the magnificent Carrières de Lumières, in France's Les Baux-de-Provence—a pretty in punk affair that riffed on artist Jean Cocteau's influence and rock 'n roll elements. The collection evoked "the modernity of the sixties as that of punk", according to creative director Virginie Viard, so it's really no surprise that the accessories of the show would evoke the theme as well.
Chanel's covetable bags were given an edgy makeover. Think: Chanel's version of a fringed messenger bag (quilted, of course), a cheeky "garter bag" creation with a tiny quilted pouch worn high on the thigh, and the classic 2.55 studded with variations of the Chanel logo.
Elsewhere, accessories took on the influence of punk—a rebellious double C lip ring here, a pearl choker where the pearls are shaped to recall studs there, and metallic chains in all sizes on bracelets and necklaces. Pro tip: the style of the season is to pile and layer your accessories every which way with a devil-may-care insouciance. More is definitely better, if we're to believe the geniuses at Chanel.
But there were softer (quite literally) accessories in the collection too—case in point, a pastel pink velvet 2.55 that will surely be a hot favourite of the season. Lockets in the shape of tiny books were also worn with several looks in the collection, a nod perhaps to the prolific Cocteau, who drew and sketched his whole life.
Here, see all the accessories that you will want on your list when the collection rolls around.
