The collection that Chou fronts is called the 1926, after the year that Tudor was founded. The new collection is a classy, elegant proposition from Tudor, which is perhaps best known for its sporty watches.

Tudor also introduced the Black Bay GMT, the first time a GMT watch was introduced into the Black Bay collection. Fans of Rolex will be familiar with the dual-coloured bezel—since Rolex and Tudor share a parent company (and therefore product heritage, to a certain degree), they probably felt that it was right to create a GMT with the distinctive bezel. The blue and burgundy colours were, however, derived from previous Tudor releases, the Black Bay Blue and the Black Bay Burgundy.

At Baselworld 2018, Blancpain introduced the Villeret Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Rétrograde (or Flying Tourbillon Jumping Hour Retrograde Minute, for non-francophiles. Neither the jump hour nor retrograde minute complications have appeared in Blancpain wristwatches, thus this new timepiece marks their debut within Blancpain’s collections.

The skeletonised dial on Glashutte Original's new perpetual calendar bring visual interest and a fresh take on an otherwise serious complication.

The dégradeé effect on the dial of Glashutte Original's new Sixties and Sixties Panorama Date is achieved thanks to a 60-tonne stamp that bangs out the detailed pattern, which is then overlaid with layers of green lacquer. A layer of black spray lacquer is then added last to create the colour gradient. That this dial is possible at all is thanks to the fact that the brand is one of the few in the watch industry has its own dial manufacture.

Breguet is music to our ears—sort of. The brand's new Marine Alarme Musicale 5547 houses no less than three horological complications—a date, second time zone and alarm. Thanks to the titanium case (which represents one of three options, other than white and pink gold), the sound of the alarm is loud and resonant.

The Harry Winston Premier Winston Candy Automatic may be small at just 31mm, but has a huge visual impact thanks to the seven different coloured gems that decorate the dial. We can see why it's called Candy.

Harry Winston has upped the technical ante again in its Histoire de Tourbillon 9. Not only is it the smallest watch of the line so far at 46.5mm, its triaxial tourbillon has been augmented with retrograde jumping hours and retrograde minutes.

Jaquet Droz is bringing a touch of whimsy to its creations this year, with its new Signing Machine. The entirely mechanical machine can be used to pen out predetermined signature at the touch of a button. Of course, for security reasons, it can be locked using a code so that only the designated owner can use it.

Skeletonised watches is not usually Jaquet Droz's menu—the brand is more of a maximalist, with automatons galore. That's why the new Grande Seconde Skeleton came as such a surprise. The watch features a seconds subdial at 6 o'clock made of sapphire glass for maximum transparency, and a skeletonised oscillating weight that adds visual interest to even the dial side of the watch.

Omega's latest campaigns are becoming a family affair, with Kaia and Presley Gerber coming on as faces of the brand. Looks like both siblings have followed in the footsteps of their famous mother, the inimitable Cindy Crawford.

Kaia Gerber is the spokesperson for Omega's latest release, the all-new Tresor collection for women. The feminine design of the front is capped off with a scratch-resistant sapphire glass mirror at the back of the watch—just in case a lady needs to reapply her lipstick.

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is celebrating 25 years in the watch industry this year, and is getting a well-deserved facelift, taking the collection into a higher realm of precision, performance and magnetic resistance. We particularly like this version of the watch, which has its dial and vertical bracelet links in rare tantalum, which has a blue-grey hue to the metal.

The Omega Moonwatch has gained legendary status, almost to the point where the 'Speedmaster' is silent. In 2018, on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission to discover the far side of the moon (that is, the one always facing away from Earth), Omega is releasing the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8. The dial and caseback are engraved with the two different sides of the moon, and the entire watch is made from black zirconium oxide ceramic. The caseback is also engraved with the words "we'll see you on the other side"—Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell's last words to NASA before radio contact was lost as the module passed over into the dark side (of the moon).
