1. Sweaty Betty

Nothing beats getting into your poses in comfortable gear. Sweaty Betty’s yoga leggings feel just like butter as you slip them on—you’d probably be motivated to get on your mat because of how soft and smooth they are on your skin. It also has the right amount of thickness so it's opaque and breathable enough for Singapore’s climate. The brand's wide range of leggings, from high-waisted ones that provide sculpting to power mesh leggings that are perfect for both yoga and even trekking, makes it hard to pick a favourite—but if we had to, it'll be the Power Mesh 7/8 Workout Leggings.

Sweaty Betty has also opened its first flagship store in Singapore at Ion Orchard, making it the brand’s second market in Asia. The new store offers the brand’s entire multi-sport activewear and lifestyle range, including its famous bum-sculpting leggings. Need some motivation to work out more? The flagship is currently offering a 15 per cent off opening promotion for every customer’s first pair of Power leggings, along with the brand’s signature monogramming service for leggings all year round as part of its complimentary services.

Available at SweatyBetty and its boutique in Ion Orchard.

2. Adidas by Stella McCartney

This long-standing collaboration between sporting goods giant Adidas and British fashion designer Stella McCartney has been beneficial for the fashionable fitness junkies among us. So what do you get when the world’s second-largest sports brand teams up with a designer whose fashion focus is on sustainability? The best of eco-conscious sportswear, of course. If you’re particular about activewear that doesn’t compromise on both performance and style, this is the brand for you. It even has a patented Climacool technology that removes moisture from the skin for heat regulation, so even if their perforated Climalite leggings feel a little thick—they’re still excellent to stretch and work out in.

3. Fendi

Perfect your downward dogs and chaturangas in style by showing up on your mat with something from the Italian luxury label’s sportswear line. While there are not many options available for yoga practice, their mesh-trimmed stretch-jersey tank tops, sports bras and printed leggings are sartorially suitable for yogis. Just because you can’t have your trusty Fendi baguette with you on the mat doesn’t mean you can’t take a piece of the brand along as you flow it out.

Available at Farfetch.

4. Beyond Yoga

Hate tugging on your cropped top as you move through your yoga session? Look to this all-American brand for fabulous threads that are made for yoga. Their clothes usually come in monochromatic tones, which is great for those of us who want a simple yet chic workout wardrobe. But the fun is in all the details—think square necklines, tied knots, and lots of velvet. The brand is also conscious of the environment and transparent about the production of their clothes, which are all manufactured in Los Angeles.

5. Lululemon

It’s not a complete list without this quintessential, well-loved athleisure brand, is it? The Canadian label has won fans all over the globe solely because of how they carry apparel that’s both cute and comfortable. The brand truly took athleisure fashion to greater heights and made it possible for us to show up to brunch in activewear. Trying on their clothes in-store is always a fun experience thanks to their helpful staff, and getting the perfect fit is important for your workout to be seamless. Their Align pants are one of their bestselling items and it’s easy to see why—they’re snug and will support you in all the right places.

Lululemon has also just opened the doors of its new store at VivoCity, making it its fifth location in Singapore. What makes the new 3,100 square feet store is the light-display wall of the iconic Sentosa Gateaway arch near its entrance. The new store will offer a full range of high-performing, technical women’s and men’s products, which are created to support their every workout from yoga to running, water sports to training, and everything in-between.

New to the brand? Try two of its innovative products as part of the recently launched Lululemon "Feel" campaign: the ABC Pant in Utilitech Fabric and the new Instill Tight—which also has same buttery softness of the Align pants but with smoothing support that will enhance your workout routine.

The brand also has stores in Ion Orchard, Duxton and Marina Bay Sands.

6. Girlfriend Collective

Ask us about a brand that we were completely enamoured with from the get-go and we’ll say this: Girlfriend Collective. Founded by a husband-and-wife duo, sustainability has been at the heart of the brand since its inception. Their best-selling Compressive leggings are each made with 25 recycled post-consumer water bottles. And if like us, challenging yoga poses may not be your only mountain to climb—pilling leggings are also dreadful to deal with, the result after many washes. But Girlfriend Collective has proven that it’s among the best in the industry as their leggings are made using a no-pill fabric so even after multiple washes and over time, you won’t be disappointed. Oh, and have we mentioned how soft their leggings feel? Without a doubt, it's one of the most reliable activewear brands out there.

7. Butter

Homegrown athleisure brand Butter may have only launched in October 2020 but it is quickly gaining a loyal stream of fans and supporters who appreciate its signature chic pastel-hued matching sets. In fact, these buttery-soft sets are tailored for an Asian fit and are comfortable enough (as its name suggests) to be worn for various activities—from intense workouts to basic aerobic exercises. The brand's co-founders Tiffany Chng and Olivia Yiong, both 27, created the label amidst the Covid-19 pandemic last year as they wanted to offer an affordable activewear option that is not only functional but will also make its wearer feel confident instantly.

Chng says: "One of the most memorable feedback [we received] was from an instructor who only bought from a certain well-known Canadian brand and didn’t like biker shorts. She said our biker shorts were the best she’s ever tried and didn’t ride up even after doing two classes. For us, being able to convert a fan who was loyal to only one brand was a personal milestone."

Butter, which is only available online, will be launching its new ‘Foundations’ collection in classic colours and two new products before the end of 2021. Drop them a DM on Instagram for more advice on sizing.

8. Free People Movement

An indie brand that’s a favourite of many yoga and pilates fans, the label’s signature boho-chic designs are consistent throughout their activewear line. If you’re looking for a great pair of high-waisted yoga pants that does not budge as you move from your low lunges to planks, this is it. There are plenty of colourways to choose from and we love that there are matching sets available. But we’re all about fashion freedom so mix it up a little, as you would during one of your power yoga sessions.

Available at Free People

9. Alo Yoga

Trendy, versatile and flattering—that’s how this popular, cult athleisure yoga brand is best described. Avid fans will always find themselves looking forward to Alo Yoga’s seasonal drops and new launches, as the label constantly adds new designs and colours to their collection. Their spring 2020 collection was absolutely adorable as hues of macaron pink appeared among their leggings, tops, yoga shorts and more. In fact, the sweet shade inspires us to work just a little harder whenever we’re holding a pose.
