Runway shows are usually hushed, closed-door events, but for their recent New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 presentation, fashion and lifestyle brand Club Monaco held a full-scale fashion show at their global flagship store in New York City. The VIPs were the members of the media and customers of the Canadian label.

For the first time, pieces that walked the runway during the men’s and women’s Spring 2017 presentation, were immediately available in every Club Monaco store, with selected items available for waitlist.

“Our goal is to offer consumers fashion-forward yet approachable style in a relaxed environment,” said Club Monaco chief executive officer Francis Pierrel. “For Spring 2017 we are presenting our collection in our own home, creating a unique experience for guests and showcasing a lifestyle beyond the wardrobe.”

Inspired by travel and the documentary Latcho Drom, the collection featured plenty of colourful patterns, floral prints and pleated ruffles in classic, modern silhouettes.

“Patterns from a Romanian shawl and the documentary sparked the inspiration behind the collection, but we’ve stayed true to our urban roots, mixing it up with crisp fabrics and sculptural shapes,” said Caroline Belhumeur, creative director and SVP of women’s design.

Even for the men, the same theme carried through, with updates made to ‘traditional’ menswear elements like pinstripes, chalk stripes and jacquard.

“This season our overarching focus is pattern, incorporating florals and various renditions of stripes paired together in a novel way,” said Matthew Millward, vice president of men’s design.

After the Spring 2017 presentation in New York, Club Monaco took their collection directly to customers worldwide, with events held across the US and in Canada, the UK and Asia.

The brand will be showcasing the pieces at the Club Monaco Marina Bay Sands store on March 24. Guests of Singapore Tatler have been invited for this special event, and they’ll be among the first to shop the collection in Singapore.
