Pleats and florals gave a decidedly refined feel to the Gucci Autumn/Winter 2015 womenswear collection which was unveiled on Wednesday, the opening day of Milan Fashion Week.
Under the influence of new creative director Alessandro Michele, appointed in January, the house previewed a relaxed collection featuring sheer fabrics, silky patterns and soft silhouettes. Necklines were adorned with billowing bows, ruched details or flower-themed blooms, with brooches used to occasionally break up the effect. Quirky fur detailing provided a riff on the classic loafer, while pom-pom laces livened up a black ballet pump.
Jaunty headgear also helped to draw attention to the idiosyncratic accessories. Skirts were long and flowing, often pleated, hemlines loose and many of the fabrics had a romantic side, with lace, fur, silk and chiffon featuring heavily. Prints were soft and elegant, bordering on William Morris-esque or taking inspiration from summer gardens. There was a notable penchant for androgynous styling, with waistlines kept loose and several flouncy suits on show, worn with more bows and accessorized with horn-rimmed glasses.
