Aespa is Givenchy’s New Global Ambassador for 2021
It seems like the trend of South Korean celebrities partnering with a luxury fashion house is only getting hotter, with K-pop group Aespa being the latest to join in on the fun.
The newly-formed band has been appointed Givenchy’s 2021 global ambassadors, making it the first-ever partnership between the K-pop band and a luxury French maison.
The four members of the K-pop girl group—Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning, as well as their respective avatars—will present key pieces and looks from collections by Givenchy creative director Matthew M. Williams.
“When I first saw Aespa, I was struck by its members’ energy, both as a group and individually. Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning each have a distinctive personal style that naturally reflects the spirit of Givenchy: when they wear fashion, they make it their own,” Williams said in a statement.
Aespa takes its name from Æ, the first letters in ‘Avatar’ and ‘Experience,’ and the word ‘aspect,’ an anagram that expresses the duality of “meeting another self and experiencing a new world via avatars.”
The group made its debut in November 2020 with the release of the single Black Mamba, a powerful track that won the group instant success, making them one of K-pop’s most relevant groups of this generation.
Their new appointment follows that of their fellow SM Entertainment labelmates who also have partnerships with luxury houses including boyband Exo’s rapper Chanyeol for Prada as well as Exo’s Kai who is an ambassador for Gucci and recently released his own capsule collection with the Italian house.
