With over 90 per cent of the population having the Tracetogether token or downloaded the app already, the rules are now changing for a more seamless check-in system

From June 1, it will be mandatory for people to use their Tracetogether app or token to check into places that have higher traffic such as shopping malls, workplaces, places of worship, schools, educational institutions, dine-in food and beverage outlets and gyms.

The Smart Nation and Digital Government Office and the Ministry of Health released a joint statement on Thursday, stating that over 90 per cent of the population had the Tracetogether token or downloaded the app already, which is why the rules are changing.

Additionally, Safeentry check-ins at individual retail outlets such as shops and supermarkets inside malls will also be removed. Shops that were not required to implement Safeentry but did so voluntarily should also remove their check-ins to make it easier for people.

The statement added: "This is because all visitors would have already performed TT-only SE check-in at the mall entrances, and the interactions at these venues within the malls are generally more transient."

It was also reported that patrons will have the option to utilise the new Safeentry Gateway device which was rolled out in March.

The new system will allow visitors to check-in by simply placing their mobile phones or Tracetogether tokens near the gateway device or box. If you are using your mobile phone, you need to have the Tracetogether app open before you tap in. The system operates much like the Ezlink operation on SMRT trains and public buses, which makes it easy and fast.

This means that you will now be able to check in using three methods. You can use your Tracetogether app to scan the venue's QR code, you can display your Tracetogether token so that a venue staff can scan the Tracetogether token's QR code or you can tap your Tracetogether app or token at a SafeEntry Gateway device.
