4/4Slices by Wedhar Riyadi

What Indonesian artist Wedhar Riyadi is one to look out for. Having witnessed a significant era of change in his homeland—the fall of the Suharto regime—his works explore the rising socio-political changes, including the increasing influx of Western and Japanese popular cultures in local entertainment arenas.

Showcasing nine paintings from his new body of work, see first hand on how he reflects upon mass media has influenced society today by distorting the imagery of the human body. Riyadi claims that he "see[s his works] as a reflection of the world we live in. Culture clashes, emotions, and human beings with all their varied problems and tensions". Held at Yavuz Gallery, witness how he seamlessly blends techniques of realism and fantasy to invoke bigger questions of manipulation caused by the age of technology.
