1/4 NUS Arts Festival

What A Game Of Numbers is the theme of Singapore’s first mathematics-themed arts festival, bringing together a highly anticipated line-up filled with theatre, dance, music and film programmes, held in collaboration between the NUS Centre For The Arts and Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science. Opening the festival will be the theatre production of A Disappearing Number. For the uninitiated, this is the first time that a Singaporean theatre group has acquired the rights to stage the UK-based company, Complicite’s, work, and will be directed by acclaimed theatre director, Edith Podesta. Here to entice the musical crowd will also be Sine of the Times, a Math Rock Music concert (yes, you heard right!) that embodies rhythmic structures such as the 7/8, 11/8 or 13/8 time-signatures, sounding very similar to the genre of post-rock. Headlining the concert then will be one of Japan’s top instrumental rock acts, Lite, with their cinematic compositions, alongside Singapore’s home-grown and resident NUS band, Forests.
