1/5Kerson Leong Plays Schumann

What 22-year-old Canadian violinist Kerson Leong makes his debut in Singapore at the Victoria Concert Hall with a performance of Schumann's Violin Concerto in D minor. Here for two nights only with an impressive portfolio to boot, it's a rare chance to catch Leong perform a phenomenal version of one of Schumann's final compositions, as he has played in some of the world's leading venues including the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City and Wigmore Hall in London.

2/5Ngee Ann National Day Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition

What The Ngee Ann Cultural Centre will be hosting the 10th edition of its Ngee Ann National Day Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, which is held in conjunction with the nation's 54th birthday. The exhibition showcases the nine calligraphy submissions by students who participated in the Ngee Ann National Students' Calligraphy Competition, alongside artworks from renowned local artists which span from Chinese ink paintings to various mixed-media installations.

3/5Films At The Fort

What Kick back under a canopy of stars with a glass in hand at Fort Canning Park this weekend, as the historical hilltop plays host to the seventh edition of Singapore's premier open-air cinema event, Films At The Fort.

If you've been missing out on the latest movie releases lately, this is your chance to catch up on new award-winning shows, festival hits and heartfelt classics with friends and family. Kicking off with the American romantic comedy Long Shot, the three-weekend-long event will also see the screening of Golden Globe-winning film Bohemian Rhapsody and the all-time classic, Shawshank Redemption, among many others.

4/5Bite/Hold/Release: The Bogeyman's Hand

What The exhibition brings together three emerging artists and photographers—Quinn Lum, Adar Ng and Lin Shiauyu—whose works collectively relate to the overarching topic of the maternal presence, exploring themes such as domesticity, discipline, documentation and domicile. Held at the independent art space, Supernormal, the exhibition is a result of an eight-month process, where the artists found various points of intervention in their works as they pursued their collaboration. 

The exhibition will also feature a casual dialogue between local artists Alecia Neo and Ong Kian Peng on August 3 about the process of making art in Singapore, followed by a mask-making workshop on August 10, and open dialogue led by the exhibiting artists that delve deeper into their collaborative process on August 14.

5/5I Eat Design

What Naiise, the local design and lifestyle retailer that is loved by Singaporeans of all ages, launches the second edition of its food-meet-design event I Eat Design at its flagship store within the grounds of Jewel Changi Airport. The event will feature two exciting days of food and design, comprising of eight homegrown food pop-ups selling grub and a range of trinkets with a local twist, in light of the nation's upcoming 54th birthday. For those with a sweet tooth, edible cookie-dough shop Dohkie will be making an appearance at the event, including their unique pineapple tart-flavoured cookie dough. To get a more hands-on experience, Sherry's Mini's will be conducting their workshop for food-loving participants to make their own cake miniatures inspired by local flavours out of polymer clay.
