Chan Kok Weng and Elaine Lim Chan invite us into their home to take a peek at the passions that make them tick. Karishma Tulsidas joins them for tea.

We experience sensorial overload as we step into the property of Elaine Lim Chan and Chan Kok Weng: adding to the cacophony of their pooches barking their welcome, we are greeted by the magnificent sight of three exotic cars in the driveway, a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead, Ferrari 458 Spider and Mclaren MP4-12C. The two are clearly car aficionados, and we find out that Elaine is the first female president of the Ferrari Owners Club Singapore.

As is often the case, an admiration for feats of automotive engineering also extends to a passion for micro-engineering: the couple has curated a collection of timepieces that span classics from the likes of Patek Philippe, to the outlandish from MB&F. “Fashion and watches have always been our way of expressing our individuality, even before we were a couple. But after our marriage, our tastes and interests have started to converge and we complement each other more.”

Their taste for the unusual is apparent in the first watch Kok Weng bought for Elaine: it was the Roger Dubuis Follow Me, with its deviant cross case. With her latest purchase, the Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Carbon Red Magic, Elaine combines her two passions: cars and watches. Its 45mm dimension might seem overwhelming for her petite frame, but it bodes well with the natural confidence she oozes and her experimental sense of style.

Kok Weng is slightly more intrepid. Says the aesthetic doctor, “My style is adventurous, funky and I dare to be different. I like colours and texture, and even with classics, I jazz them up with a modern twist, almost always with a dash of colour, paired with my signature accessories, glasses and shoes.”
