The film is set to premiere on July 30
A24 has finally released the highly anticipated trailer of David Lowery's adaptation of the iconic 14th-century Middle English romance, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and we could not be more excited to swoon over Dev Patel who plays the beautiful and moody leading knight.
The Green Knight is a retelling of the Middle English poem that was famously translated by J.R.R. Tolkien in the 1920s. It follows Sir Gawain, who is played by Dev, as he goes on a quest to find the green knight, a warrior, and to honour a bargain he made with him.

The trailer sees Gawain meeting the Green Knight where he is offered an axe. However, to keep the axe, Gawain will have to strike the giant once. However, one year from that day, Gawain is to meet with the Green Knight to receive one blow from the warrior in return.
From the trailer, it looks like Lowery has largely kept true to the plot details of the poem but he has very clearly moved away from the magic and romance of the original story and produced a darker and more sinister version for the screen.
